Some tools suggestions edit

Hello! Glad to see you here :)

There are a bunch of Wikidata:Tools that can make your life easier. Some can be enabled in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets, for others you need to add to your Special:MyPage/common.js − You can see my own at User:Jean-Frédéric/common.js.

Some I would definitely recommend:

There’s more, but that’s a start :) Jean-Fred (talk) 17:51, 6 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much! I'll have a look at them. Thgiex (talk) 06:54, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your OpenRefine batches look good! One remark − the mobygames numeric IDs should be mapped to MobyGames game ID (P11688), not to MobyGames game ID (former scheme) (P1933). Jean-Fred (talk) 19:05, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the correction, I will take into consideration for the production run. I also made a small mess and created some doubles, a handful of staff and companies. Would you recommend requests for deletion or just merging/forwarding? Thgiex (talk) 11:46, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
You can just merge them. (Also, repurposing an item is a big no-no, but if you literally just created it that can also be an option.) Jean-Fred (talk) 08:17, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ah another one: I see you added Ball Raider (Q104915714)genre (P136)arcade-style video game (Q15613992) ; formally this is redundant because we already have Ball Raider (Q104915714)genre (P136)Breakout clone (Q2941225), and Breakout clone (Q2941225)subclass of (P279)arcade-style video game (Q15613992) (see also this visualisation). That said, this sort of things can be really hard to detect so it’s somewhat inevitable when doing big data uploads ; just wanted to make you aware of it. A somewhat redundant genre statement is better in my book than no genre at all (and we sorely lack genre data in general). Jean-Fred (talk) 08:16, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi again! Is Linel (Q117461964) a duplicate of Linel (Q55587315) ? Jean-Fred (talk) 13:00, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that is a duplicate. I apologize for the mess! Merged them. Thgiex (talk) 13:08, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the input regarding genres. The redundancy occurred due to the import process adding properties. Thgiex (talk) 13:11, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!
By the way, wanted to let you know that I proposed new properties for developer, publisher and artist in the Hall of Light database: Wikidata:Property proposal/Hall of Light IDs − that way we can have some IDs for these creators :) Jean-Fred (talk) 14:25, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sources and References edit

I knew I forgot one suggestion before the actual import: Sources! Adding a -stated in (P248)DACH Gamma list (we can create an item for that list). It’s helpful for the traceability of the information. Jean-Fred (talk) 10:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I see now the edit summary “Only base dataꓹ references and actors (staffꓹ developerꓹ publisher) will be added later.” − cool :) Jean-Fred (talk) 10:21, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
♥ agreed. That was also my key take-away from your article on Wikidata as the mycelium, the database of databases. Thgiex (talk) 11:09, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Special:Diff/2054405721 edit

Hi! Happy New Year :)

I noticed Special:Diff/2054405721 − was there anything wrong with this title (P1476) statement?

Jean-Fred (talk) 20:24, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I removed "(English)" from the title because it's actually not part of it - if I'm not mistaken Thgiex (talk) 13:47, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see. title (P1476) is of the monolingual text data-type − the combo of a string + the language of the string. So the "(English)" is not part of the title, but is additional metadata on the title. Compare to for example Q104959760#P1476, which has its title in "German", and Q567250#P1476, which has several title statements. 'That said, the use of title (P1476) on video games is not very mature either.) Jean-Fred (talk) 16:19, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
