Null edits edit

This bot is doing many null edits this seems to be a bug e.g. see [1] or all edits here: [2]. --Sk!d (talk) 21:56, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, aude is looking into it on IRC. Legoktm (talk) 22:00, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Empty item edit

The bot created an empty item here: [3]. Delsion23 (talk) 23:16, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Technically speaking, this should never be possible...the bot always has at least one link to add. I'll add an explicit check to ensure it's not sending an empty list when creating the item. Legoktm (talk) 20:42, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've had to delete at least 10 that I've found manually. There's bound to be more. Thanks for being proactive about fixing the issue. Delsion23 (talk) 22:54, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

For later cleanup:

MariaDB [wikidatawiki_p]> select count(*) from page where page_len<156 and page_namespace=0;
+----------+
| count(*) |
+----------+
| 184 |
+----------+
1 row in set (0.35 sec)

A query edit

the bot is importing wikivoyage links and in Q1061 which is about Gujarat many link are pointing to Vadodara (not this item but the cities page on wikivoyage) which is a city in Gujarat. Is it normal?--Vyom25 (talk) 06:07, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wrong interwiki edit

I am afraid I have a problem with this edit.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:54, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Block notice edit

I blocked the bot since it started to create empty pages (like Q14238459). Please feel free to unblock once the problem has been solved.--Ymblanter (talk) 15:13, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just making a note that I adjusted the block settings. I'm not sure what IP it's running on, but we don't want to accidentally block the operator(s) or other bots.   The Anonymouse (talk) 19:42, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I unblocked now.--Ymblanter (talk) 05:43, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Duplicates edit

This bot has been a mixed bag today. It's been great at getting links into items when the WV article has a link to a WP article. However, I've just gone through the last 40 items created by this bot. 75% had to be merged with already existing items. 2 of the items were completely empty. This bot needs fixing before it can be allowed to start up again. If this same pattern is apparent throughout the bot's new items, we have a hell of a lot of duplicates to start merging... Delsion23 (talk) 18:40, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

That rate of problem is not a mixed bag, it's a failure. A bot that creates items that have to be merged in 75% of the cases should not be allowed to run. At this rate, it's actually more efficient to list the items and let Wikivoyage enthusiasts add them manually. The bot does seem to be doing ok for Wikivoyage pages that are already linked to WP articles so one solution is to prevent the bot from creating new items until it's been improved. Pichpich (talk) 19:27, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think that's a good idea. If it's true that 75% of of the items the bot has created are dupes (I'd be very surprised if that is the actual perecentage), we have some really poor inter-project linking going on. If I disable the part of the bot that creates new items, and just add links to existing items for now, does that sound like a good compromise for now? Legoktm (talk) 20:39, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
For me, it would be fine (please simultanously make the list on new items which the bot did not create).--Ymblanter (talk) 20:51, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. --Stryn (talk) 20:55, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'd be ok with that. Pichpich (talk) 21:03, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Inter-project linking is indeed quite poor between Wikipedia and Wikivoyage. I've merged about 200 items so far, and that's just the ones beginning with Wa*** to We*** and the Wikivoyage phrasebooks. W is not the only letter affected by this, it seems to be pretty consistent no matter how far back I go in the bot's contribs... Delsion23 (talk) 23:23, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Travel articles on dog breeds edit

Hi, I just fixed this edit, where Puli, Taiwan is linked to the Puli dog breed. It's not entirely the bot's fault, since the incorrect link was there in Wikivoyage to begin with, but I wonder if it'd be possible to produce a list of wikivoyage links to types of things that are not usually travel destinations, for humans to review. --Avenue (talk) 08:54, 6 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
