Request to correct description "ulice v Janovicí nad Úhlavou" (2022-08-01)

Request date: 1 August 2022, by: ŠJů

Task description

Please find items with cs description "ulice v Janovicí nad Úhlavou" and replace it with "ulice v Janovicích nad Úhlavou". 23 item affected.

Discussion

A grammar error, a wrong form of the locative case. The locative case (6. pád) of "Janovice" cannot be "Janovicí". The correct form is "Janovicích". See here and here.

(Btw., I recommend a systematic check of all other Czech municipalities, because more grammatical errors of that type have already been found here). --ŠJů (talk) 18:01, 1 August 2022 (UTC) @Frettiebot, Frettie, Matěj Suchánek, Ben Skála, Mike Peel:

Request date: 7 August 2022, by: ŠJů

Please find items with cs description "ulice v Byšici" and replace it with "ulice v Byšicích". 20 items affected.

Discussion

@Frettiebot, Frettie, Matěj Suchánek, Ben Skála, Mike Peel: A grammar error, the name "Byšice" is a plurale tantum, the mistaken form is for the singular. The correct form of the locative case (6. pád) is "Byšicích". See for:

Ok, i'll check it. You're right – https://vdp.cuzk.cz/vdp/ruian/obce/534722. But it's strange that it didn't also fix the streets descriptions in this village in last description correction, which has been done before. Of course, a systematic check was done last time. But I'm not able to check every single street. --Frettie (talk) 06:36, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

It's ok, corrected most of cases. Where I could, I added the correct preposition v/ve. --Frettie (talk) 18:12, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

  • pt and pt-br labels beginning with "Estrada europeia "
  • ro label beginning with "Drumul european "
  • uk aliases beginning with "Автошлях "
Discussion

Generally, the listed labels and aliases are descriptive labels and aliases of roads and railway lines which are identified by their number, not by their proper name. In most of languages, the common words introducing the number of the road or railway line do not give the whole label a character of a proper name.

For other languages of "European roads" labels (e.g. European route E55 (Q313410)), a more extensive analysis would be needed which languages retain or not retain a capital letter in adjectives derived from proper nouns, and which languages consider these words to be part of the road's proper name.

Doubts regarding the numbering of Czech and Slovak roads were explained in the previous discussion, the explanation remained without any response. --ŠJů (talk) 23:58, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Copy taxon common name to alias [redux]

In 2017, I asked:

We need a bot, please, to copy values from taxon common name (P1843), to aliases in the appropriate languages, like this edit. A periodic update would be good, too.

and User:Matěj Suchánek helpfully suggested:

At least two steps should happen before this:
  • copy to labels where missing
  • update labels/aliases with different capitalization (upper to lowercase)

also noting that at that time, there were "around 300,000 (!) aliases to be added". It might be better to copy the taxonomic name to the label; but I am ambivalent on that point.

There were some vague objections, but these were never substantiated. Was the task done, and is it being done regularly? If not, could someone do it, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:51, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
