author of foreword (P2679): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs | discussion)
Duplicate of front and back matter (P8570)+author (P50) and the current property does not handle books with multiple forewords. GZWDer (talk) 19:24, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep premature. I disagree with this proposed deletion. Firstly the suggested alternative is not an alternative to noting the author of a preface or foreword. These authors are regularly noted on the title page of a work, so have a level of billing that should be clearly annunciated. I do see that their is potential for use of contributor to the creative work or subject (P767) as a replacement *if* we then qualify the contributor with the aspect of their contribution, be it one of any number of forewords, of part of the body of the work. I don't see how the alternate proposed handles the situation that is noted as a problem. in fact I see that it could make it worse.
I will also note that this issue has not been raised with Wikidata:WikiProject Books for their discussion, nor even alerted following its nomination. Circumventing projects is problematic as most of us will be looking to the project for guidance and the norms. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:09, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment Deletion right now might be a bit premature, but it does seem to me that this should probably be more correctly captured as:
- author (P50) → the author's item (or should it be contributor to the creative work or subject (P767), I guess not creator (P170))
- applies to part (P518) → foreword (Q1358138) (or introduction (Q305178), imprimatur (Q955005), afterword (Q677297), etc as appropriate)
- author (P50) → the author's item (or should it be contributor to the creative work or subject (P767), I guess not creator (P170))
- If nothing else, this doesn't link the property tightly to "preface". Inductiveload (talk) 21:21, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
