- Motivation
These are Australian Bureau of Statistics identifiers for formally specified geographic regions. Some defined by them, some approximating regions defined by other government entities. Their URLs will provide a quick link to 2016 census information about those regions. These are expected to go live in about a week. Wikipedia currently links to the 2011 version of these pages for demographic information, but it would be nice to be ready for 2016. The 2011 version of this identifier, Australian Statistical Geography 2011 ID (P4014), is working well. --99of9 (talk) 13:22, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Support Agree that the 2011 ID property is working well, and this will make import, historical linking and citation much easier. --Canley (talk) 23:37, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

- Support Lankiveil (talk) 03:41, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- Comment This is now more urgent, as the data has been released, and the links are valid. For example [1] [2]. --99of9 (talk) 02:49, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
- @ChristianKl: are these ready to go? --99of9 (talk) 13:15, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- @99of9, Lankiveil, Canley: Done Created as Australian Statistical Geography 2016 ID (P4093). ChristianKl (talk) 10:37, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
- @99of9: Are you planning to import the population data or do you only import the identifiers? ChristianKl (talk) 16:39, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
- @ChristianKl: Yes eventually I want to autopopulate this but as you can see it's complex, and we will need to be careful to choose the correct population in cases where we have multiple identifiers associated with the same town. I think the process will go something like this: get all the 2011 identifiers into MixNMatch, associate them all, then do some data cleansing, then map to 2016 identifiers, then upload populations with detailed qualifiers, then make a draft template in en-wiki. Why do you ask? --99of9 (talk) 00:18, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
- I'm lately thinking a bit about population data on Wikidata and it would be great if there would be enough well-sourced data on Wikidata to make the case in the individual Wikipedia's to automatically import population data from Wikidata. ChristianKl (talk) 13:38, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
