- Comment Why we sould limit to catholic organisation? I am not sur this proposal is different of religion or worldview (P140). --Fralambert (talk) 12:41, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not saying we should limit to catholic, we could have a property "rite" instead in that case, it is different from the property "religion" because one religion can have many rites. Amqui (talk) 15:20, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
- Weak oppose I see no reason to limit this to catholic rites that was brought forward. ChristianKl (talk) 20:33, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
- If I've understood this correctly, then "rite" could be represented by has characteristic (P1552) or uses (P2283). Thryduulf (talk) 14:42, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- Support A rite of the Catholic church is not the same as a religion. The different rites of the Catholic church, while they differ in liturgical practice, accept the same doctrines and the authority of the Pope. While in principle, this concept is broader than just Catholicism, the idea of a religious body containing organised subdivisions with the same beliefs but different liturgy is largely exclusive to the Catholic church. The term "rite" does sometimes get used, in a similar sense, to refer to the different Jewish liturgies; however, they are not quite comparable, since the Catholic rites are distinct organizations within the Catholic Church, with distinct leadership, e.g. Maronite Catholic Patriarchate of Antiochus (Q15964049) is the head of the Maronite Church (Q64900), whereas the Jewish Ashkenazi rite (Nusach Ashkenaz (Q7070334)) has no leader. There is a somewhat comparable concept in the Orthodox Church – Western Rite Orthodoxy (Q2638583) – but again, similar to Jewish usage of the term "rite" and unlike Catholic usage, "Western Rite Orthodoxy" is not a single organisation, rather it is spread out through a number of distinct Orthodox Churches. So, I think it is justifiable to have a property specific to the Catholic use of the term, since the Catholic use of the term has an organizational element distinct from its use in Judaism and other branches of Christianity.
