Motivation

Highly reputable source; per [1] the registry, which is actively maintained, includes over 12,000 funding body names and is available under CC0. The registry is used by GRID ID (P2427) entries, against which we can match our IDs. The formatter URL shown is a search, which returns a list of papers funded by the organisation concerned. Oppose - isn't this known as FundRef? Also they register these id's as DOI's so wouldn't that be the correct identifier type? - see the discussion on P1905 (and see also P1905 (P1905). ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:16, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- The value of P1905 (P1905) for European Geosciences Union (Q1376656) is "European Geosciences Union"; the Crossref ID for the same entity, per this proposal, would be "501100001649". - Also, the Crossref ID can be part of a DOI (for the example above, http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100000831 - resolves to http://data.crossref.org/fundingdata/funder/10.13039/501100000831 rather than the URL in my original example) but - since other DOIs might also refer to the entity - it might be better to have a separate property as proposed, with an alternative formatter URL of http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/$1.   - Hmm, ok on the name, but the ID is still part of a DOI. At least the formatter URL should probably change to http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/$1 - but who else is assigning DOI's to organizations? And the 10.13039 part of the DOI makes clear if nothing else does that this comes from the Crossref funder list. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:13, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
