Motivation edit

KnotInfo is an authoritative source of information on mathematical knots and links, for which both Wikipedia and Wikidata have a number of entries. It is hosted by w:Indiana University. Providing structured links to KnotInfo pages will not only provide yet another source of unique identifiers for knots (necessary, because there are so many slightly different and inconsistent naming schemes for knots out there, hence my recent set of property proposals) but also provide Wikidata users access to a wide range of information about these entities that goes far beyond the range of information currently planned to be stored on Wikidata, as well as providing a source of potential data for those entries. If this property is created, I can fill in values for existing entries using my bot.

Note that this is not a redundant property: for some knots, it's the same as the Alexander-Briggs notation (Q55960283), for others, it's the same as the Dowker-Thistlethwaite name (see this property proposal), and in both cases, it's a fixed-format string without mathematical typesetting, not a LaTeX value. -- The Anome (talk) 13:01, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
