- Motivation
We recently created Quora topic ID (P3417), for the English-language Quora. Quora also exists in Spanish. (There are no other language variants.) The values for English and Spanish versions are not the same (for the two examples given, the English equivalents are "Zinedine-Zidane-football-player" and "Cheese"). The formatter URL is also different. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:45, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Strong oppose The Spanish version of Quora is just a few months old, and as such it is an empty website without any relevant information for Spanish speakers. It might change after a few years, but for now it is not the case.--Micru (talk) 23:17, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing, Micru: Not done, currently no consensus for creation, as it's too soon. Feel free to repropose it.--GZWDer (talk) 15:53, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
- Quora made the decision to be friendly. They use and link back to our items (with a straight follow link). They encourages their users to edit Wikidata.
I'm Strong support for creating this property. ChristianKl (talk) 22:28, 24 February 2017 (UTC)- Quora have "been friendly" from the outset, and that is welcome; but it is not a requirement, and should not figure in our decision on whether or not to create a property. This proposal stands on its own merits. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:55, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
- Creating propoerties is more worthwhile when they are used to good effect. ChristianKl (talk) 17:49, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

- Oppose external id-datatype. Should be string
--- Jura 17:56, 26 February 2017 (UTC)- Note: Quora topic ID (P3417) has datatype:external-id. Jura's proposal to delete it and recreate it with datatype:string has found no supporting consensus. The use of a formatter URL requires datatype:external-id. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:45, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- One key feature of "external-id" is that it causes the references to be listed at the end of an item when it's browsed in Wikidata. As most people likely don't visit an item to see it's references to Quora, it's helpful to have the data type be external ID so that it's at the end of the item along with the other identifiers. ChristianKl (talk) 07:38, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
- It's worth noting that Quora wrote in the blockpost that they desire to be able to use Wikidata in the future to better link the topics of different languages together. That sounds like a great usecase worthy of being supported by this proposal. ChristianKl (talk) 07:32, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing, GZWDer, Micru, ChristianKl, Jura1: almost 6 months have passed since this was proposed, so Micru's objection may no longer apply (and I'm a little surprised at GZWDer's quick action there). But given the mixed discussion here and the lack of activity in over 3 months I am marking again as Not done, and suggest this would be best handled by (now or at a later date) proposing this property fresh from the start, while linking to this preceding discussion.
