DescriptionMaterial proprety measuring the ability of a material to absorb energy and plastically deform without fracturing.
Representsmaterial (Q214609) > mechanical property (Q5725005) > toughness (Q486802)
Data typeQuantity
Template parameterThis proprety request is part of the project of creating an infobox for materials
DomainMechanical property of all solid Materials
Allowed valuesAny number. Since it depend on parameters such as thermic treatment, most materials will an have a upper and lower bound. Qualifiers : temperature (P2076) (shall be mandatory), under pressure (P2077), determination method (P459), Moisture absorbtion.
Allowed unitsKJ/m3, J/m3, KJ/m2, J/m2, J/m, J/cm, J, ft-lb, ft-lb/in...
Example 1SAE 316L stainless steel (Q28453931) → 325 J / 76 ft-lb determination method (P459) → Charpy V-notch, temperature (P2076) → 30ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [1]
Example 2nylon 66 (Q7071155) → 0.267 to 7.47 J/cm / 0.500 - 14.0 ft-lb/in determination method (P459) → Izod Impact, Notched, temperature (P2076) → 23ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [2]
Example 3nylon 66 (Q7071155) → 0.0612 - 5340 J/cm / 0.115 - 10000 ft-lb/in determination method (P459) → Izod Impact, Unnotched, temperature (P2076) → 23ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [3]
Example 4nylon 66 (Q7071155) → 3.00 kJ/m² / 1.43 ft-lb/in² determination method (P459) → Izod Impact, Notched (ISO), temperature (P2076) → 23ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [4]
Example 5nylon 66 (Q7071155) → 60.0 kJ/m² / 28.6 ft-lb/in² determination method (P459) → Izod Impact, Unnotched (ISO), temperature (P2076) → 23ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [5]
Example 6nylon 66 (Q7071155) → 4.50 J/cm² / 21.4 ft-lb/in² determination method (P459) → Charpy Impact Unnotched, temperature (P2076) → 23ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [6]
Example 7nylon 66 (Q7071155) → 0.300 J/cm² / 1.43 ft-lb/in² determination method (P459) → Charpy Impact, Notched, temperature (P2076) → 23ºC under pressure (P2077) → 1 bar [7]

Planned useCreating an infobox for materials

Motivation

This proprety request is part of the project of creating an infobox for materials.

Discussion

This is once again a proprety with lots of different testing methods. This mean that printing several values on infoboxes is usefull. -- Thibdx (talk) 11:15, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
