Motivation
It can be qualifier to property instance of (P31) misspelling (Q1984758) or any other property with markup of common misspelling. The property proposal is in relation with discussion at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:Lexicographical_data/Archive/2018/07#(Q1984758) KaMan (talk) 13:06, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
Discussion
Comment This is only useful if there is consensus to have misspellings as Lexeme entries. -- Duesentrieb (talk) 13:13, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- I had doubts myself at first, but thinking deeper there can be value of having very common misspelings like better suggester based on our lexemes. KaMan (talk) 15:16, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment I prefer descriptivism than prescriptivism and in most case there is not a "correct" form, just a form "preferred" by some (and depending on the context), maybe "preferred" would be a better name for this property. @KaMan: for auroch(s), how would you use this property? auroch → aurochs before 1990 and aurochs → auroch after 1990 ? (PS: may goddesses help us that this property would not be used on very wrong statement, like "color → colour"). Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 15:39, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- @VIGNERON: thank you for yor changes in auroch, I've finally understood (or I hope so) the problem with this lexeme. I've changed examples in property proposal the way I understood what's wrong, what's correct and when. (color/colour pair is already in colour/colour/color (L1347)). I think there should be consensus about using misspelling (Q1984758) that it should have the source where it is mentioned as common misspeling or language regulation (like orthographic corrections of French in 1990 (Q486561)) where it is mentioned as correct form/misspeling. Support
--- Jura 05:06, 25 August 2018 (UTC)- Not sure about the samples. Could you suggest that Wikidata sees orthography reform merely as an end date of spelling errors. --- Jura 11:41, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
