- Motivation
To create a simple and consistent system for organizing ethnic diasporas, and making queryable subjects like artists of the African diaspora. Note that this property is meant explicitly for ethnic groups and ethnic communities, not for individual persons. Pharos (talk) 03:12, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Support To be a big tent that allows projects like the one that wants to focus on artists of the African diaspora. ChristianKl (talk) 10:00, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- Question I see Irish Americans (Q1075293) is currently using part of (P361) Irish diaspora (Q2574155). What's your motiviation for feeling that that is inadequate, and a separate property is called for? Jheald (talk) 10:15, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Jheald: I added that to the Irish American item myself, as an improvised measure. However, I don't think this is useful enough or intuitive enough method to be applied in a consistent way. The issues of diasporas are being handled by a random assortment of properties now, and I feel a dedicated and clearly-defined new property would catch on more universally and give us higher quality querying.--Pharos (talk) 05:56, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
- Support As long as the citiations are used to identify, I also think this would be fantastic in the queries we are trying to do for Black Lunch Table and what I imagine AfroCROWd is doing as well as other initiatives on Wikipedia. Also, @Jheald:, basically, I think what would be helpful in that scenario is when I want to query the Irish Diaspora who are also in Canada or other places outside of America. And if someone is not only Irish Canadian but also African American they could be queried by both Irish Diaspora and African Diaspora, no? --Heathart (talk) 19:55, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- Support This is a smart solution and it could benefit many projects Parikan (talk) 06:14, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Pharos: The property currently lacks a description. ChristianKl (talk) 11:22, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
