Discussion edit
- Oppose I think this qualifier is redundant, we can say that Geoffrey Hinton (Q92894)employer (P108)Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto (Q5260203). Each faculty item already specifies the university to which it belongs. E.g. Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto (Q5260203)part of (P361)University of Toronto (Q180865). --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 20:07, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Tinker Bell: I think it's the another sense of "faculty" that is meant. --- Jura 21:14, 19 September 2019 (UTC)
- Comment Actually, I think more useful than this proposal would be to have a property for the GENERIC department or other subdivision that the person is part of. Rather than creating a wikidata item for every such subdivision, allow a qualifier that specifies for example faculty of science (Q62091513), faculty of arts (Q683471) etc. Where we already have a wikidata item, I agree we should go ahead and use it directly as employer, etc. But I think it would be helpful to have a generic subdivision qualifier property for cases where we don't have (or need) such an item. - Instead I think we should have items for individual department of each universities, especially when there's no universal nomenclature for such departments.--GZWDer (talk) 06:03, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

- Oppose Use affiliation (P1416) as a qualifier instead. Nomen ad hoc (talk) 19:32, 20 September 2019 (UTC).
- Do you think it is meaningful to use the same property as both main value and qualifier with different meaning?--GZWDer (talk) 06:03, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
- Comment I think the current approach of using institutions and subdivisions thereof in P69 keeps generating unneeded maintenance work and inconsistency. A qualifier like the above is needed, but maybe it should be named in a different way. Beyond the currently suggested label "faculty", maybe "department", "school" should be taken in account. P1416 goes probably in the right direction, but its scope might be too different to be applied here. --- Jura 12:36, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
