ISO 12620 (Q5974188) defines several register (Q286576).

Words - or rather their senses - may be used in certain contexts/situations. It is unclear whether we should use existing properties: has characteristic (P1552), instance of (P31) and part of (P361) have been suggested. It might be better to have a dedicated property as the one suggested here.

For the English label I have suggested "language use", but there might be a better label.

Question Should this also be used to indicate that a given word is part of terminology in a specific field? e.g. beyond "jargon" it could say "terminology of some SPARQL standard". --- Jura 07:28, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Hmm, enwiktionary often qualifies a sense with a technical field that it is used in ("geology", "astronomy", "biology", etc.) - would this property be appropriate for that, or is that something different? ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:55, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Would that depend on whether the item exists in Wikidata? For instance, medical terminology (Q1192539) exists and I suppose could be used to label "caput" (as head sense) as wd:P<this suggestion> medical terminology (Q1192539). medical terminology (Q1192539) is a subclass of specialized terminology (Q1391494) that is an instance of style (Q2313235), so I suppose that should be ok. We got Legal English (Q1374908), nautical language (Q7041009), etc. We might not have items for "geologicalese"/"geological language".
