Motivation edit
Probably thousands of notable buildings on Wikidata are on streets that are not on Wikidata, and that may never been on Wikidata unless there is a policy change to import much more geographical data. We are forced to use street address (P6375) instead of the much more machine-readable located on street (P669) qualified with house number (P670). Using OSM identifiers for this purpose allows us to take advantage of a much larger purpose-built external street database, and to state the address in a more meaningful way.Pharos (talk) 13:34, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Discussion edit
- Oppose This is not the normalized way to express such information. We should have items for individual streets involved. In this proposal, if the ID is changed probably hundreds of items are affected instead of just one.--GZWDer (talk) 21:33, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Comment I do no think that there is policy to prevent creating items about streets. More than a year ago we imported all streets in the Czech Republic (see Czech street ID (P4533)) and located on street (P669) and house number (P670) now works like a charm for addresses of buildings (but for headquarters location (P159) as well). Importing all streets in the USA may be controversial, but importing all streets in NYC probably will not cause any controversies.--Jklamo (talk) 16:22, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose A better approach would be to create the item for the street, since all streets mentioned in street address (P6375) values should already have inherited notability per the structural criterion of WD:N. Jc86035 (talk) 16:46, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose As a OSM mapper I'm also opposed to linking OSM relations, they are not a stable ID. --Sabas88 (talk) 08:01, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
