Task/s: creation of work/edition structures conforming Wikidata:WikiProject Books for Wikisource projects.
Code: pywikibot based
Function details: various Wikisources contain multiple versions of the same text, translated or in the original language version. As they have different publishers, translators, publishing dates and structures information about them cannot be merged into a single wikidata item containing interwiki information. To solve this problem the appropriate data structures were designed. As there is a lot of information to be transferred (potentially a few hundreds of thousands of texts needs to be described in Wikidata) id is very hard to do it manually, however few users started this work already. Intention of this bot is to be a helper bot that allows automation of large parts of the process (some work still needs to be done manually, however, so the transfer is intended to be performed gradually and semi-automatically). Most information to be transferred is available in the templates on the text pages in Wikisources or on related pages in the Index namespace. --Ankry (talk) 21:54, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Can you be a little clearer about what the bot would do? Is it adding new items for missing "editions" of texts, for instance? Or just adding sitelinks to wikisources for existing items? Or something else? Is there another source for the information besides Wikisources? ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:49, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- At the first step I intend to create "work" items manually. The bot initially is intended to create "edition", items, sometimes hierarchically (poems, volumes) add appropriate sitelinks to wikisources and create appropriate interconnections between them (Property:P629/Property:P747, Property:P361/Property:P527, Property:P1433). At the moment, I do not intend to use the bot to modify existing data (except adding missing properties to them). Sometimes these are hundreds of items needing creation / modification per work. I intend to perform some test editions basing on this edition (and maybe also on related editions in other Wikisources) next week. Ankry (talk) 14:19, 7 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @ArthurPSmith: the information source is in most cases the books themselves and sometimes library catalogues. In wikisource it is already manually preprocessed; I doubt there is another source containing this information in a standarized digital form.
- I performed a test run; it filled ~10% of data for a single book in one language. But is seems that performing any complete run would exceed the 250 test edits limit. Some data still needs to be filled manually but it would be great to avoid doing everything manually. Ankry (talk) 14:42, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Well it looks to me like it's doing sensible work - thanks for the sample edits! I don't know if there's somebody more knowledgeable about FRBR stuff that should review this, but I think you're entering things correctly as far as I can see. So - Support. Best of luck!
