Merging items

Hallo Ankry,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the empytied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

Mythographer

Brothers Grimm (Q2793) is considered as a mythographer in fr:Catégorie:Mythographe, so I think this occupation is OK. --Epìdosis 18:49, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

@Epìdosis: according to Polish Wikipedia article mytography is an ancient Greek profession. So either is wrong. Ankry (talk) 18:55, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

@Epìdosis: So this profession should not be linked to article that define this profession as ancient only. Maybe there should be two separate wikidata professions if there is no common definition. I can't find information whether Q26248430 shold be interpreted in a wider or in a narrower sense. Do you know where to look for it? If definition is a wikipedia article and it is different in various languages we have profession definition dependent on language. Very bad. Ankry (talk)

@Mboix: There are various dates in various sorces. And the source for the record you attempted to "fix" was English Wikipedia (leaving the source information intact). Well, it should be replaced by a better source (the one you are pointing out seems OK to me); feel free to fix it providing the source of course.

@Electron: W tym przypadku, może jest to rzeczywiście przerost formy nad treścią, ale jak już ktoś to rozgrzebał... Jedtak w takich sytuacjach inaczej się nie da. Skrypty obsługujące tę strukturę na razie działają u nas i u Szwedów; inni czekają na oficjalną implementację. Ale z tego co widzę, to jeszcze długa droga. Ankry (talk) 09:28, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Btw. Wykazałem dobrą wolę i zmarnowałem kupę czasu aby się pochylić i próbować pojąć co poeta miał na myśli ale coś dalej interwiki nie działają dla -> Q19437931. Jak to jest aż tak popiepszone to chyba sobie odpuszczę... Dlaczego nie mogło być jak dawniej. Wstawiał człowiek interwiki i działały. Zawsze ktoś coś musi tak skomplikować, że bez specjalistycznych 5-letnich studiów wyższych nawet nie podchodź do tematu :( Electron (talk) 13:13, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

Dotyczy kategoryzacji na commons. Zupełnie tego "nichtfersztejen" dlaczego tylu Kazimierzy zaliczono do "Kazimirów". Czy tak teraz będzie się przepisywać Karoli pod Charlsów, Janów pod Johnów, Jerzych pod Georgów, Bogumiłów pod Gottliebów itd ? 95.112.163.157 15:58, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

@Hasley: They were created accidentally. I am trying to fill them successively, but I am afraid I will not fill more than 100 in reasonable period of time (few weeks). Feel free to delete them, if they are a problem. Or please advice, what can I do. Ankry (talk) 19:22, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Pytanie ze szkolenia

Hej! Pytałeś mnie wczoraj na szkoleniu o kwestię, jak pokazać na WD, że nie znamy dokładnej daty czegoś, a jedynie zakres. Zobacz proszę datę urodzenia w elemencie Mieszko I (Q53435) - myślę, że to jest wzorzec, jak należy to robić. Pozdrawiam serdecznie! Powerek38 (talk) 09:40, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

@Powerek38: Ha, sam tak nawet czasem pisałem, jednek w pewnym momencie doszedłem do wniosku, że to jest trochę bez sensu. Bo wprowadza maszyny w błąd. Widziałeś gdzieś funkcję (np. moduł w wiki), która potrafiłaby prawidłowo zinterpretować taki format?

1. jeżeli ta funkcja nie rozumie dodatkowych kwalifikatorów, to je powinna zignorować; czyli zwróci informację, że o dacie urodzenia MI nie mamy bladego pojęcia.
2. przy masowym, statystycznym przetwarzaniu danych (np. chcesz podzielić ludzi na stulecia wg daty urodzenia), gdzie taki MI trafi? Zazwyczaj używa się do tego funkcji obniżającej precyzję informacji (czyli ignnorującej ostatnie cyfry wyniku); żeby rozumiała i interpretowała kwalifikatory trzeba by ją napisac od nowa
3. inny przypadek; załóżmy, że mamy informację, że gdy miał 20 lat coś ważnego sie wydarzyło. Kiedy to było? (data urodzenia)+ 20 lat. Widział kto takie dodawanie działające na kwalifikatorach?

Owszem można napisać od nowa wszystkie funkcje operujące na datach, tylko kto roządny się tego podejmie nie mając oficjalnej dokumentacji, że taki jest przyjęty standard ani pewności, że od jutra nie będzie inaczej.

Krótko mówiąc, baza ta zawiera mnóstwo ważnych i ciekawych informacji, ale korzystanie z niej bez wsparcia AI to jest koszmar. Dla maszyny dużo lepszym rozwiązaniem byłoby tu pozostawienie wcześniejszej wartości "935" (nawet z kwalifikatorem około).

Z powodu tego typu problemów (nie tylko tego jednego) już kilkukrotnie wycofywałem korzystanie z WD jako źródła danych. A pytanie na szkoleniu zadałem, licząc, że może ktoś już zaprojektował jakiś mechanizm pozwalający uniknąć tego typu problemów. Jak widać nie. Pewnie skoro tego nie przewidzieli na etapie projektowania WD, to później rzecz nie jest już prosta. Ankry (talk) 10:43, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

unknown death date

Hi. It would be better when you don't know a death date of a person to just leave it empty rather than stick an unknown, it just makes it harder to track and resolve. Just as you don't know the data, doesn't mean that the data is unknown, which is the implication of that sort of entry. Better to use the flourishing date fields to capture their active living periods as it displays better at enWS, and is better data. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:32, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

If other tools are reporting this person as alive, they should be heeding the flourishing dates. If the person doesn't have either a birth date or a death date, then tools that are reporting him alive are those at fault, they are misinterpreting data.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:10, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study should take no more than 15 minutes.
