Welcome to the WikiProject European Union, where we create, maintain and improve items about the European Union (EU). The scope of the project includes EU institutions and bodies, legal documents, policies, court cases, politicians, civil servants, and other notable Wikidata items related to the EU. Nearly two dozen language versions of Wikipedia have their own EU-themed WikiProjects which could benefit from and contribute to EU-related data stored on Wikidata.

See also WikiProject Govdirectory that has done lots of work around improving items about EU institutions and bodies.

Here is the list of EU-related data models created by our WikiProject. Please follow them when editing items about these topics.

See the data models that are still under development on Data models subpage.

Subprojects & To Do

edit

Here are the subprojects we are currently working on. Add your own EU-related Wikidata tasks or projects under this section! See also WPEU project talk for current developments and discussions.

There are currently around 4300 Wikidata items about the legal acts (regulations, directives etc.) of the EU, but many are missing and the existing ones often lack essential statements. EUR-Lex (Q1276282) metadata is stored in a knowledge graph named Cellar and it is available through an open SPAQRL endpoint under CC0 license. Storing part of that vast data on Wikidata could e.g. help Wikipedia to augment contents of their articles about EU regulations and directives.

  • form a data model for EU legal acts   Done
  • check the classification and ontology   In progress
  • create a SPAQRL query for retrieving all relevant metadata from EUR-Lex   In progress
  • add statements from EUR-Lex to existing legal acts on Wikidata
  • create new Wikidata items for all (notable) EU legal acts

This subproject is meant for improving Wikidata items about the treaties that are the legal basis for the EU and its earlier iterations. Just like for the EU legal acts, EUR-Lex offers free metadata about the EU treaties.

  • form a data model for EU treaties   Done
  • check whether we have items for all the treaties
  • check the classification and ontology

EuroVoc is a thesaurus published by Publications Office of the European Union (Q480222). This external identifier is useful for attaching main subject (P921) values to EU legal acts because on EUR-Lex metadata they are stored in the form of EuroVoc IDs.

  • Create a Mix'n'match catalog   Done [1]
  • match all the consepts to Wikidata items   In progress
  • solve duplicates and other issues   In progress
