Wikidata:WikiProject Philippine historical markers

The WikiProject Philippine historical markers is a narrow-scoped WikiProject to represent in Wikidata all of the historical markers related to the Philippines. This is an initiative of Wiki Society of the Philippines (Q18559795) under its Encyclopedia of Philippine Heritage (EPH) program. Currently, this WikiProject is focusing on the markers installed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (Q2652138).

Historical Markers Map edit

Map screenshot

The Historical Markers Map is an online web map showing the a live snapshot of historical markers as stored in Wikidata. The data shown on the map is dynamically retrieved from Wikidata via the Wikidata Query Service.

To be included in the map, a historical marker's Wikidata item needs to have its instance of (P31) property set to National Historical Commission of the Philippines historical marker (Q21562164) and to have a valid coordinate location (P625) set. Each historical marker is represented by a marker on the map that when clicked will open a popup showing an image (P18) (if any) and the inscription (P1684) (if any) with the historical marker's title linking to the corresponding item in Wikidata.

Panandâ edit

Panandâ marker details view

Panandâ is an Android mobile app that lets users explore the historical markers. Users can browse the historical markers either on an interactive map or as a list, and can bookmark individual historical markers or mark them as visited. The app also has a filter feature that shows markers by region or markers that are near user if GPS is enabled.

Unlike the Historical Markers Map above, Panandâ only shows a static snapshot of the data from Wikidata (i.e., the data is fixed and is not dynamically retrieved from Wikidata). The app, and therefore the data, is updated a few times a year.

A version for iOS is forthcoming.

Guidelines edit

The Lichauco House historical marker (Q21529486) is now represented in Wikidata.

Attribute Example Remarks
Labels and descriptions
English label Lichauco House historical marker The format should be <title> historical marker where <title> is the title on the marker. If the marker is not in English, translate the title into English. If there is no title, use the name of the main entity being commemorated.
English description historical marker for the Lichauco Heritage House The format should be NHCP historical marker for <entity> where <entity> is the main entity being commemorated.

coordinate location (P625) 14°34'52.75"N, 121°0'39.89"E The coordinates should be set to the location of the marker itself and not of the structure where the marker is installed. For example, a historical marker installed on the facade of a church will have its coordinates located somewhere at the front of the church, and not at the center of the church (which is the coordinates of the church itself). Please set the value to a precision of 5 decimal places (which is precise to around 1 meter).
Marker information
inception (P571) 2010 This represents when the marker was installed and should at least contain the year. The year of installation is almost always seen on the marker itself. If the inscription is too long (you will encounter an error), then place the inscription temporarily on the item's talk page using Template:LongInscription until a better solution is found. See Talk:Q23336728 for an example of placing the inscription text in the talk page of the item.

image (P18) Lichauco Heritage House marker.jpg This is the filename of the Wikimedia Commons photo of the marker. Please upload a photo if it is not in Commons yet.
