First Step

Hey guys, I really want to bring this forward, so I propose to first just immigrate the interwiki links to wikidata. That should not be a unsolvable problem and would generate a hopefully stable and big enough wikidata community to do the rest step by step. I suggest to summarize here everything we have to do for this, make a numbered checklist and then work on this point by point. I am quite new to wikidata so please show me all helpfull pages and beginn to do the checklist, so I can work on this. I want to bring this step to an end during this summer. Greetings, Impériale (talk) 09:40, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Impériale, AFAIK there is nothing to do to integrate the Wiktionary interwiki links to Wikidata. In fact, one has to wait that the Wikidata developers add this functionnality to Wikidata. Once it will be available, the iw links will be probably added to Wikidata using bots. That's said, there is a major difference between the Wiktionary interwiki links and the iw links of the other projects. On Wiktionaries, the iw link have exactly the same name on all Wiktionaries (except the apostrophe that is different between French and English Wiktionaries for example). Ok, that's very good! But how much time do they need? When did they start doing that? Are you sure that they are still doing that? --Impériale (talk) 10:02, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I realize people really want to get this moving. However I have to focus us at the moment - especially the dev team. We need to get unit support, the UI redesign and a number of data quality and trust tasks finished before we add another huge project like Wiktionary that will need a lot of attention from the dev team. I know this sucks but no-one is helped if we do 10 things half-assed instead of 3 properly. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 11:01, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Mh, yes that's true. Is there any possibility to see the progress of the tasks or even to help the team? --Impériale (talk) 16:30, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Of course :) The big picture is at Wikidata:Development plan. That also links to relevant other wiki pages and phabricator tickets. If you have questions about specific topics feel free to reach out to me. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 16:30, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! Looks like it still takes time to start working on the wiktionary but maybe with the pnew proposal the wiktionarians can start working on it within the next few weeks :) --Impériale (talk) 20:12, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

@Impériale:: thanks for pushing for that! I was working for a while on a proposal for breaking down the tasks and discussing the interwiki links in particular, and finally I have it. You might it find quite interesting, and I think it is also quite immediately actionable. Let me know how you like it. --Denny (talk) 02:45, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Wow, it is better than I could have imagined it. I don't really have time now and for beginner to intermadiate wikidatian it is not that easy to understand but I will read it and everything around it in detail in the next few days to weeks. It feels good to read that there are still a lot of people that want to get this running :) --Impériale (talk) 20:06, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
