Isotope edit

‎APSbot is currently adding the spin on all isotopes item (see for example this diff). As this property expects to be used only on subatomic particles, isotope items appear in the constraint violations report. Would it be possible possible to add the posibility to use this property also for isotope items in order to describe the spin and the parity of their ground state and/or their isomeric state if they exist? Pamputt (talk) 14:53, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I see I made a note many months ago on spin quantum number (P1122) asking about this, but then forgot it was an issue when I added a modified script to the bot to pull in the other pieces of info from NNDC. Technically, nuclides are indeed subatomic, so the problem with this constraint is the limitation to elementary particles here, which is clearly wrong. Although there is perhaps some ambiguity in the meaning of "isotope" - is it the nuclide, or the nuclide plus its normal atomic state electron cloud? What the bot is entering obviously is just the spin and parity values of the nuclide itself. I'm not sure if we ought to make that clearer somehow. In any case, for now I'm going to modify these constraints to allow "isotope", but it probably should be broader than that too. ArthurPSmith (talk) 00:19, 26 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@ArthurPSmith: thanks for the modification on the constrains. For the rest, I agree with your definition of the spin for isotopes and nuclides. Pamputt (talk) 18:22, 27 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
