Question
editCan this also be used to identify the 'location' of a painting?
- the location of the painting? no. as soon as a painting has a narrative, yes!--Shisma (talk) 12:15, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- Wouldn't that be motive, depicts (P180)? --Palnatoke (talk) 08:47, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
- Well.. we currently have 42 paintings with a narrative location. Many of them also has the location in the motives. On the other hand, many of the depicts (P180)s are not "the motive of this painting", but "an insiginficant detail in this painting", so having a property to store "location of the motive" makes sense. --Palnatoke (talk) 09:18, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
To me it sounds odd to have a narrative location set for a painting. Narative should be reserved for works that have some form of sequence. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 17:05, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
Is Q617332 the same? —Sobloku (talk) 01:01, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
- I think so. I do not think this property is limited to films, but should be used on other works of fiction too. I have changed the property accordingly. --Haansn08 (talk) 18:10, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Real vessels as narrative locations
editAs currently defined this property may be used with fictional vehicles but not actual ones. Yes, it would be possible to construct an item for a fictional analog of an actual vessel and then locate the narrative there. However, that seems cumbersome, in part as it's possible to locate a narrative in a geographic location without the need to create fictional analogs of the place. There are definitely narrative works that take place on non-fictional ships, such as operas that take place entirely or in part on the Achille Lauro cruise liner or the Amistad slave ship. Films, novels, etc., too, can have vessel settings. At the same time, would we want to consider also adding real-world analogs of other constraints where fictional entities are permitted but not real ones, particular, fictional spacecraft and fictional organization?
