Jacques Rosenthal was the owner and proprietor of the antiquarian bookshop “Antiquariat Jacques Rosenthal,” Munich, and a private collector of early modern European globes and Renaissance paintings. As a Jew living in Nazi Germany, in 1935 Rosenthal’s firm was “Aryanised” and transferred to non-Jewish ownership. Works of art from Rosenthal’s collection in Munich and apartment in Paris were subsequently confiscated. Others were sold off in order to fund Emi Rosenthal’s (1857–1941), Jacques’s wife, emigration to Switzerland. (English)
