North Rhine-Westphalian school ID edit

Hello @M2k~dewiki, thank you for removing this object Q2111126 from format constraint of North Rhine-Westphalian school ID (P12123).

  1. Should Q2111126 be added to single-value constraint of NRW school ID?
    • I would aggree to do that to express that Q2111126 can have multiple school IDs 195376 and 197567.
  2. Actually, Q2111126 appears in the load of your harvest template of NRW school ID, which will lead to „constraint violation: format violation“.
    • This happens due to the WP infobox field containing two numbers „195376, 197567“, which is correct from the WP point of view.
    • Is it a quick solution to add the two school IDs to Q2111126 (which means that my first question is agreeable)?
    • Do we really need a constraint violation to prevent the harvest template from importing a possibly double school ID into a school center?
  3. The harvest template loads further groups of schools from WP which probably won't have a valid ID of a federal state:
    • inactive schools
    • folk high schools and music schools
      • Is it ok to load those schools, or is there a way to get rid of processing them?

It would be nice if you can give me some hints here. T. Wirbitzki (talk) 23:19, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @T. Wirbitzki:
From my point of view, no constraint exception should be necessary in the property for these three objects.
An error message in harvest templates is not always necessarily an error in the articles or wikidata objects. harvest templates is just a tool to save manual work, you could also enter the same information manually.
For harvest templates, the value "no value" could be a workaround (does not work, it is ignored by harvesttemplates):
since per default it loads only entries, where the value is not yet set (to whatever value, including the value "no value")
If there are no exceptions set in the property, then constraint violations might also be found at (no mather, if they are entered manually, via QuickStatements, via PetScan, via HarvestTemplates, via Bot, via API, or other tools and methods) at:
which is updated per Bot eventually:

For other reports also see Category:Constraint violation reports, especially with lower property IDs. With a higher number of entries using a property (i.e. more than 650 as they are now) also some constraint violations will be found, a permanent complete clean report is ideal in theory, but not always possible in practice or at least very hard to achieve, especially if the data is under permanent maintainace/permanent ongoing changes/additions. IMHO, exceptions in the property should be an absolute exception. In general, the problem should be solved in a different way in the data (articles or wikidata objects). M2k~dewiki (talk) 00:33, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @M2k~dewiki, thank you for your clarification. The only absolute exception of an educational organization which will never never get a NRW school ID is a plant nursery (Q155511) ;-)
I get to like the idea that school centers and similar cases should have no school ID, because their parts already have one.
As a consequence, I will soon remove all single-value constraint exceptions from the NRW school ID.
However, I think it is worth documenting somewhere which kinds of NRW schools don't have IDs.
Does that mean that the expected completeness of the ID property will be „always incomplete“ instead of „eventually complete“? T. Wirbitzki (talk) 21:18, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello @T. Wirbitzki: every property has a talk page for further discussion and/or additional documentation: Property_talk:P12123, for example: Property_talk:P12123#Talk:Q2111126#North_Rhine-Westphalian_school_ID. M2k~dewiki (talk) 21:25, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
