Hi guys, this revision https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q95&diff=735139658&oldid=735134942 was obviously incorrect. Since this page is locked, I cannot revert it myself and I haven't found a better place where to report this…

When is Google's birthday? edit

We have inception (P571) → 4 September 1998, but is this the correct date? However, not even Google seems to really know when it was formed. Since 2006, it has celebrated its birthday on September 27, but the year before that, had it as September 26. In 2004, its 6th birthday Doodle went online on September 7 and in the year before that, it was September 8.

For the record the domain google.com was registered on September 15, 1997,[1] and the company filed for incorporation on September 4 the following year.

So long story short, Google’s birthday could be argued as September 4th, but Google officially celebrates September 27, 1998. - Premeditated (talk) 11:24, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Like many of us, I've seen their doodle yesterday, and on that page I see a reference to the one from 2002 which also says it's September 27. That's all I can tell so far. — Mike Novikoff 11:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Gogol edit

This is slightly silly, but I believe it would closer match reality to state that Google (Q95)named after (P138)Google Search (Q9366) and only then it's Google Search (Q9366)named after (P138)googol (Q507). They came up with a name for the product first, and naturally used it for the corporate entity as well. (Or maybe the other way around, but that seems less likely, considering they set out to build a search engine, not a company). --Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 07:11, 19 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Google vs. Alphabet edit

I removed the 2020 revenue from this page because it is Alphabet's revenue not Google's. Alphabet is the parent company. If we put the revenue here as well, then both Google AND Alphabet show up in the list of top ten US companies ranked by revenue. And they both have the exact same revenue. https://w.wiki/3pW4. --Korimako (talk) 13:48, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are right, these data belong to Alphabet Inc. (Q20800404).--Jklamo (talk) 14:10, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
