Comment: This could be a block evasion by indefinitely blocked user Matlin. See this thread for more details. I'm also wondering if there is any way to restrict Matlin's access to Mix'n'Match and his new sockpuppet accounts. Regards

I posted there that the code changes didn't seem to work, but didn't get a response. Here's another case where an account registered 4 days ago is doing stuff on MnM: https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/rc/5708 (pretty sure it's another sockpuppet of him)

Apparently it really didn't help. Matlin persists in creating his new sock accounts for mass edits (brand new sock) and is not going to stop. I am of course reporting it here, but all in vain and the situation is clearly getting out of control as he is creating socks almost every 1-2 days (his new accounts are easy to spot in the m'n'm jobs log). I think it's worth trying again to change the code in Mix'n'Match in order to reject new users. Regards

What would be a suitable check? Autoconfirmed? Account older than 3 days?

Solidest (talkcontribs)

I'd say account older than 10-14 days (although even that can be bypassed with bulk registration on the same-day). Since it's unlikely that a really new user will immediately head over and start MnM edits, and auto-confirmation is too quick and easy to get.

By the way, since he most often makes mass batches via "Manually sync catalog" -> "Updata Wikidata" [QS batch link] - the same problem may apply to QS. As he may authorise with his new accounts on QS and get batch links from his old account on WD.

What we need then is a "can perform mass edits" flag from the MediaWiki API. I really don't want to hack something into all my mass-editing tools that I have to adjust when the trolls find a new approach.
