Welcome

  Welcome to Wikidata, Midas02!

Wikidata is a free knowledge base that you can edit! It can be read and edited by humans and machines alike and you can go to any item page now and add to this ever-growing database!

Need some help getting started? Here are some pages you can familiarize yourself with:

  • Introduction – An introduction to the project.
  • Wikidata tours – Interactive tutorials to show you how Wikidata works.
  • Community portal – The portal for community members.
  • User options – including the 'Babel' extension, to set your language preferences.
  • Contents – The main help page for editing and using the site.
  • Project chat – Discussions about the project.
  • Tools – A collection of user-developed tools to allow for easier completion of some tasks.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask on Project chat. If you want to try out editing, you can use the sandbox to try. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and become an active editor for Wikidata.

This was discussed in Wikidata:Requests_for_comment/A_need_for_a_resolution_regarding_article_moves_and_redirects#Clarification. I'm afraid I don't know when this will be implemented.

There is a work round which you can do now:

  • Create an article on wikipedia with the right title.
  • Add a link to this page from the Wikidata page
  • Convert it to a redirect.

This will leave you with a Wikidata link to a redirect page.

Hope this helps. Filceolaire (talk) 15:46, 10 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Deletion request

edit

Hi Midas02! I have replied to your deletion request here. I'm unsure on a couple of points and would appreciate your response, thanks. Delsion23 (talk) 18:14, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Blanking of statements

edit

I've reverted your deletion of statements, since I couldn't find any rational for it. Please be careful, Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 00:35, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hola. When you look at the history of the item carefully, you'll noticed that the statements where made in English only, whilst the item doesn't have an en: link attached to it. As such I couldn't guarantee they were correct, and preferred to remove them. I'm working under the assumption that bots will import the correct statements again from the other languages that are linked to the item. Rgds.
"statements where made in English only" – nonsense, all statements on Wikidata are multilingual, basically. Thread carefully! Littledogboy (talk) 19:44, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguations

edit

This is not how we do disambiguations Midas02. Littledogboy (talk) 13:27, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dobry den. I am aware, but I didn't change much other than merging two items about the same disambiguation. And to be honest, I believe the result is quite neat and unambiguous. Now, I'm always open to constructive feedback, but you're not exactly offering a solution as well. What would you do? Break up the item completely into individual items? Wouldn't you admit that the current situation is a much better solution?--Midas02 (talk) 21:30, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Trust me, this is a dynamic project and you can discuss any issue on one of our discussion pages. Littledogboy (talk) 19:41, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, please do not remove sitelinks without adding them to another item. Littledogboy (talk) 13:44, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've removed the IW links from that article manually, so that a robot wouldn't add it again. Isn't that enough?--Midas02 (talk) 21:30, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, must find a new match or create a new item.
This or this is not the way we do labels. I will have to ask you to stop editing Wikidata – you must take a look at how we do things, first. Take a look at our help pages. Don't take it bad, but please stop editing for now. Regards, Littledogboy (talk) 13:33, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Correct, I needed to have a look. I was merely trying to prevent users from adding the wrong links again. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe it's mostly bots who correct the labels automatically so we don't have to do it, right?--Midas02 (talk) 21:30, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Use description instead. Best, Littledogboy (talk) 19:41, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Babel

edit

Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g. {{#babel:de-N|en-3|sk-1|fr-2|cs-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. Best, Littledogboy (talk) 00:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but is there any way to make those label boxes collaps as I find they're in the way more than anything else?Midas02 (talk) 03:50, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
