Motivation

"CRAB" stands for "Central Reference Address Database". The CRAB is the authentic source for addresses in Flanders, Belgium. It contains all official addresses, and their geographical location. It is managed by the Flemish cities and municipalities. The CRAB street code ID is use to uniquely refer to streets located in Flanders. As Wikidata already includes some streets in Flanders, it would be useful to include this identifier. VincentDucatteeuw (talk) 09:44, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Currently, the government department responsible for CRAB does not have any formatter URLs that work for the ids.

My proposal is not necessarily unique as there are other Wikidata projects that want to create a similar overview of (historical) streets for other cities, e.g. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Haarlem_Erfgoed_%26_Data.

Adding the CRAB ID property would allow us to uniquely refer to each (historical) street in Ghent. It would then be possible to use the CRAB ID to link (historical) street data to these ids via a Wikidata reconciliation service and link information to these streets. In my own work, I am currently processing historical street data that I would like to publish as linked open data, so that other people can use it. If Wikidata, for example, contains a list of streets in Ghent, then cultural (heritage) institutions in Ghent can use the Wikidata ids of these streets to spatially link their heritage collections.

If my proposal is not within the scope of Wikidata, no problem. But I would be eager to hear where I could otherwise publish this information as linked open data. VincentDucatteeuw (talk) 12:25, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support The Dutch equivalent property 'BAG public space ID' (P5207) has been very useful in linking between governmental datasets and Wikidata. Dutch archives are starting to use Wikidata identifiers for streets (the advantage of Wikidata being it is possible to create items for streets that no longer exist as well and add additional data like 'construction date', 'named after' etc.). Support We already have a lot of streets in Flanders in Wikidata, and their items should be improved with this link. Whether all streets are notable is a different (and interesting) question, but since at least some streets in Flanders are notable this property is useful.--Pere prlpz (talk) 20:33, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
