- Motivation
This is the canonical record of registered political parties in the UK, back to about 1999 (when this particular registration system was set up). Each major party has an identifier of this form, plus a smaller number of "minor parties", non-party campaign groups, etc. The registration record is pretty sparse but it is tied into things like the mandatory financial statements, and is probably going to be useful for crosslinking to other political records.
Non-parties in the register have different ID forms but use the same URL (eg campaign groups are TPxxx), so we could expand it to cover those if desired, but I suspect most won't be on Wikidata. Identifiers are not unique per se - a party which lets its registration lapse then registers again will have a second ID issued - but most parties we are interested in will hopefully be organised enough to only have one!
