Motivation
editThe online Monasticon Hibernicum is an authoritative resource published by the School of Celtic Studies at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. It offers stable URIs for many ecclesiastical settlements known or assumed to have been existence in early medieval Ireland (up to c.1200). It includes communities known to have had a monastic character as well as other ecclesiastical sites that were not necessarily monastic or even community-based. A dedicated Wikidata property would expand the coverage of Irish historical places and placenames. It would also be useful to have this alongside other geographic properties such as Logainm ID (P5097), Atlas of Hillforts ID (P4102), Irish Sites and Monuments Record ID (P4057) and Irish National Monument ID (P4059), although a distinction must be made between the site and specific structures within it. Discussion
edit- Support --Wikibelgiaan (talk) 10:09, 3 November 2023 (UTC) A little gem of a database, which proves very useful given its good coverage of this specific topic and its bibliographic references.
- Comment I removed the "ready" status because the proposal needs a bit of tweaking. First, the Domain statement is mixed up with the Subject item. Second an more importantly, the examples are lacking Wikidata items (or links to them). @Rand(1,2022): If those are provided, I will support the proposal. - Thanks for your feedback. I forgot to mention it at the time but I corrected the mistake you pointed out to me and added a couple of examples. Many settlements probably don't have a Wikidata item yet and for those items to exist this property would be a good start. Rand(1,2022) (talk) 15:10, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Rand(1,2022): How do we know that the first two examples relate to the wikidata items in question? Will Cenannas & Cell Dara be added in some way? Thanks, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 11:40, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Cenannas/Cenandas and Cell Dara are simply the historical names for those foundations in Kells and Kildare, respectively. The towns that grew from/around them still bear these names in their modern vernacular forms (Ceanannas, Cill Dara). You're right that the names will need to be added.
