Motivation edit

Wikidata:Property proposal/Firefox add-on ID is not actually about an add-on ID but rather a URL slug on the Firefox Add-ons (Q604841) website. The actual extension ID is usually more complex, as seen in the examples above. A property corresponding to the more stable extension ID would be useful for more reliably identifying an extension, serving the same purpose as Bundle ID (P7429) but for extensions. Firefox Add-ons has deleted all legacy add-ons from the site, even ones that remain compatible with other extant Mozilla-based applications, so it would be especially useful for legacy add-ons that are notable for historical reasons. Some notable extensions were never part of Firefox Add-ons, predating that site from the days when XPI extensions were hosted on mozdev.org (Q2699723) and targeted the Mozilla Application Suite (Q538588). Unfortunately, I'm unaware of an endpoint on mozilla.org that we could link to for any given extension ID, but that's sort of the point behind adding this property alongside Firefox Add-ons URL slug (P8579). – Minh Nguyễn 💬 23:36, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
