Number of subscribers
editOriginally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Organization
Description | Number of subscribers for subscription based companies, e.g. telecommunication companies, newspapers, pay-tv channels, etc. |
---|---|
Data type | Number (not available yet) |
Allowed values | numbers |
Example | (source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators) |
Planned use | I would add the number of subscribers from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators to wikidata |
- Motivation
Often when I read WP articles on subscription based companies (e.g. telecommunication companies, newspapers, pay-tv channels, etc.) one of the first statements in the WP article is something like 'company XYZ is the largest company (based on number of subscribers)'. Unfortunately I didn't find a way to include this essential information to wikidata.
It would improve Wikidata organization coverage as the proposed property 'Number of subscribers' would ease sorting companies by size and identifying key industry players Givegivetake (talk) 19:55, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

- Comment. This is quite possibly member count (P2124). Thierry Caro (talk) 16:53, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- Comment. Thanks for your feedback. Neverthless I think your proposal doesn't fit too well in typical commercial customer relationships. member count (P2124) definition says "number of people who are part of an organization at a particular time". To give an example: a newspaper subscriber wouldn't be part of the newspaper company (or member of the editorial team), he just buys the paper on a regular base Givegivetake (talk) 18:54, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
- Support I think the notion of being a member in an organization is a different one than being a subscriber.ChristianKl (talk) 09:12, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Support That looks sensible and useful. − Pintoch (talk) 17:57, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
