Motivation edit
The UK Lakes Portal is an authoritative online database of freshwater bodies of water in Great Britain and Northern Ireland and their catchment areas, maintained by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (Q5062417), a subsidiary of the Natural Environment Research Council (Q4272261) government agency. As well as basic details like location, area, depth, volume, etc, the database contains information on the chemistry of the lakes, the land nature of their catchment areas, biological species observed in and around the lake, and more.
The external ID would be a valuable resource to cross-reference for the 1660 items for lakes and lochs in the UK that we currently have, as well as additional ones we probably ought to have. Jheald (talk) 23:49, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
