Motivation edit
This property request is to create an identifier for the Wikipedia and the Italian school (Q117279813) project, established in 2020 by Wikimedia Italy to support distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative produced a system to describe and monitor the status of Wikipedia content related to Italian schools, and it is currently being expanded to cover also schools in Uruguay. -- Sannita (WMIT) (talk) 09:34, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

- Please add the URL formatter. Midleading (talk) 08:25, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Midleading Hi, for the time being there is no URL formatter, just a XX-YYY code (where XX is the ISO code for the country and YYY is a short code for the school level). I will add it when we will establish one. Sannita (WMIT) (talk) 09:11, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose From looking at the Source, there are only the 3 values given in Examples. We don't need an external ID for 3 values; and furthermore we want to link to more specific pages of that project, not to just those 3. @Sannita:, you better figure out how to map educational resources to WD items in a more generic way. Eg "Biology" and "Secondary level" should point to https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Biologia_-_IT-SUP, but can also point to educational resources from many other organizations --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 11:14, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Vladimir Alexiev for the time being there are only three values, but we plan on extending such values with Uruguay schools, and eventually other countries' school systems. For the Italian stage, we ruled out the property here exactly because it would have been too much for the project, but now that the project is going international, we figured we could use a WD property for this. About the link, we'll see how to deal with it after we decided the Uruguay codes and resources. Sannita (WMIT) (talk) 14:56, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Sannita (WMIT): Let me get your intention right. It seems to me that
- Your example1 means "In the Italian school system, stress (linguistics) is studied in PRIMARY school"
- If that is the intent:
- The name "Wikischool ID" is completely inappropriate. Propose a prop like "educational level"
- Describe the levels as WD entities. You can do it in country-specific items, or country-independent items
- Link specific topics of instruction to these levels in WD using "educational level"
- Add your URLs as "described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:*" to those items
- -------
- Another problem with your proposal is that it links to the more generic thus less interesting pages like https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_IT-SUP.
- It doesn't link to the more specific thus interesting pages like https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Biologia_-_IT-SUP.
- If you make items as described above, you can add your links in a structured way, eg (third level bullets are qualifiers):
- Secondary School
- is a: Educational Level
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_IT-SUP
- country: Italy
- Amphibia
- educational level: Secondary School
- country: Italy
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussione:Amphibia
- educational level: Secondary School
- country: Italy
- educational level: Secondary School
- Biology
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_Biologia
- country: Italy
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Biologia_-_IT-SUP
- educational level: Secondary School
- country: Italy
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_Biologia
- Secondary School

- @Vladimir Alexiev Thanks for your suggestions. I'll talk with Wikimedia Italy and Wikimedia Uruguay about that, and we'll review the proposal accordingly. This could be indeed a solution that could be working also for the Uruguay use case, and not just for the Italian one. -- Sannita (WMIT) (talk) 15:30, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
- The above examples are for the case "country-independent items for educational level". But now I think it's better to do it with "country-dependent items" since otherwise you need to provide qualifier "country" too many times. Then the examples would change to this (I've also added a couple of qualifiers to clarify that the web links are to educational resources):
- Secondary School in Italy
- is a: Country-specific Education Level
- subclass of: Secondary School
- country: Italy
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_IT-SUP
- Amphibia
- country-specific education level: Secondary School in Italy
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussione:Amphibia
- country-specific education level: Secondary School in Italy
- object has role: educational resource # or maybe this can be implied
- Biology
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_Biologia
- object has role: educational resource
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Biologia_-_IT-SUP
- country-specific education level: Secondary School in Italy
- object has role: educational resource # or maybe this can be implied
- described at: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikiscuola_-_Biologia
- Secondary School in Italy

- Oppose This is not an external identifier (following the proposed examples), it is a classifier, and so should be string datatype, not external-id. I would support as string datatype. ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:48, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: Thank you for your suggestion. Fixed it in the proposal. --Sannita (WMIT) (talk) 15:30, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Use catalog code, 3 values are not enough to make for a property. Thanks for noticing Vladimir Germartin1 (talk) 02:55, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
Request withdrawn. As per Vladimir Alexiev's suggestion, we'll focus on an "educational level" kind of property, mostly starting from his idea. Later in the week I'll draft a new proposal, for the time being let's close this one. --Sannita (WMIT) (talk) 14:21, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
