Oppose This will not reflect deletion in external wikis (e.g. there are ongoing cleanup in Bulgrian Wikinews). In the future most closed wikis will be reopened and largely succeed Incubator: see phab:T228745.--GZWDer (talk) 16:22, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

- It's unclear to me what we gain from moving the link around here. What's wrong with storing links to closed but not deleted projects in the current way? When it comes to projects that are actually deleted, why is it important to continue to store the link if the data is not accessible? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 01:13, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe using "page" instead of "sitelink" gives the better label as it describes that a page is available on the topic in a given project, wherever it may be hosted. Technically, I suppose we could keep sitelinks to deleted projects, but I'm not entirely sure if this is what our consumers expect (Wikipedia would have interwikis to nowhere). --- Jura 13:21, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- So the intention of this change is basically that Wikipedia doesn't show interwiki links anymore to pages of the closed WMF project? That seems reasonable to me. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 13:28, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- I still do not think "not showing interwiki links anymore" is good. If a bot crashes it should be fixed at the bot's side.--GZWDer (talk) 15:18, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- An alternative could be to move them to this property before the site gets deleted. In that case, before, each wiki would have to decide if they don't want 888interwikis any more. Are there any intermediate stages we should consider instead? --- Jura 16:19, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- It is extreme rare that a site is deleted without content moved elsewhere. We do not keep sitelinks to deleted Wikipedia articles either.--GZWDer (talk) 18:54, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose Why don't you use <item>described at URL (P973)<URI>
