Motivation
editThis property will be used to describe the ecosystem type (Q125824188) of coordinate locations and named geographic entities. It is useful for climate modelling, species distribution models, biological invasions and ecological research more generally. This will be broadly useful to Wikidata as it will be possible to describe the ecosystem types contained by given location entries like parks, rivers, towns and forests. Currently, some items use "instance of" or "part of" to link a location to its ecosystem type. We believe that a more specific property will aid in both the entry and retrieval of information on research sites and natural heritage locations. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 14:31, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose Redundant because this is already set on "instance of" (e.g. instance of river). One could/should instead add something like "subclass of: ecosystem" to the item about river. --Prototyperspective (talk) 09:10, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose instance of (P31) does the job. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 07:46, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
