"La Courneuve" displayed as "Bamako" on some pages.

Hi All,

I just noticed than on this street "Avenue Roger-Salengro (La Courneuve)" , the town name which is "La Courneuve" (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q244725) is displayed as "Bamako":

I strongly suspect this is intentional.

@Rc1959: Someone changed the name of the town on July 12 - https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q244725&type=revision&diff=1675837505&oldid=1670771277 - and items linking to the town will display the old name until the cached item is refreshed by purging - see PurgeTab: in preferences/gadgets. Wrong translation for "century" in Norwegian Nynorsk

I came across this error in this description. 2nd century is rendered as "2. århundre", which is a term belonging to the nb language code (Norwegian bokmål). The correct term for nn (Norwegian nynorsk) is "2. hundreåret". I have in the past tried to change every instance of "århundre" to the correct "hundreår", but it appears without success. Wrong translation of "Undo revision"

The German language version says after undo an edit: "Version 101010101 von Superman (Diskussion) rückgängig machen" (English: "Undo revision 101010101 by Superman (talk)"). The translation is wrong, it must should correctly: "Version 101010101 von Superman (Diskussion) rückgängig gemacht" (the past participle of "machen" is "gemacht", see https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/machen and https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gemacht#German). @HarryNº2: Assuming you refer to the edit summary of undo actions ("Rückgängigmachen" in German), I think we need to change translatewiki:MediaWiki:Wikibase-entity-summary-undo/de. Is this correct? @MisterSynergy: That's right. The line should read:

• Old: Version $3 von $4 (Diskussion) rückgängig machen: (with a colon at the end)
• New: Version $3 von $4 (Diskussion) rückgängig gemacht: (with a colon or a semicolon at the end)

In the German-language Wikipedia, the original text reads:

• Änderung 101010101 von Superman rückgängig gemacht; (with a semicolon at the end)
• Änderung $3 von $4 rückgängig gemacht;

Personally, I think the Wikidata version is better in this form:

• Version $3 von [[Special:Contributions/$4|{{GENDER:$4|$4}}]] ([[User talk:$4|Diskussion]]) rückgängig gemacht: (with a colon or a semicolon at the end)

The English is "Undo revision $3 by $4" (present tense imperative); isn't the current German translation consistent with that? The summary states the intent of the change; the intent is to undo revision $3 by $4. Although there is inconsistency in many of the current automatically generated summaries, it is my impression that present tense is generally preferred (especially when shorter), although I don't see a formal policy. –LiberatorG (talk) 20:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Yes, the current German translation is consistent with the English (present tense imperative). It is not, however, consistent with what they do at German Wikipedia. I'm undecided which one to pick here, since both work. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Not sure where the colon/semicolon comes from here at Wikidata. The colon is not contained in the Translatewiki message, and only added as a separator when the undoing user is providing a custom undo message. German Wikipedia has de:MediaWiki:Undo-summary including a trailing semicolon that also shows up when no custom undo comment is provided—that clearly does not seem to be ideal. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:06, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

@MisterSynergy: It doesn't really matter whether there is a colon or a semicolon at the end. The main thing is that after resetting an edit, the version history says "gemacht" ("made") instead of "machen" ("make"):

• New: Version $3 von [[Special:Contributions/$4|{{GENDER:$4|$4}}]] ([[User talk:$4|Diskussion]]) rückgängig gemacht

@HarryNº2: Well, it sounds like some clarification would be helpful (otherwise the original translation wouldn’t have been wrong); the form “undo” specifically was pointed out by LiberatorG above. Looking at both the German and English translations in the “Related messages” box on translatewiki:MediaWiki:Wikibase-entity-summary-undo/qqq, I think that the English translation in translatewiki:MediaWiki:Wikibase-entity-summary-undo/en is probably off, together with translatewiki:MediaWiki:Wikibase-entity-summary-restore/en. Those are the only ones using present tense, while all other edit summaries (in English!) use past tense as well.

I'm not sure how to add to the documentation here, however. Is this something which needs further explanation, or are we fine with choosing the wording along common experiences? To my experience, all of these edit summaries are pretty clear regardless of the exact form chosen. —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:07, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

If there is any doubt here, I would like to refer again to an example from the German-language Wikipedia: [1]. It says: "Änderung 213221213 von 2A00:A200:0:822:E06F:8457:BB5A:7AD8 rückgängig gemacht;" and not "Änderung 213221213 von 2A00:A200:0:822:E06F:8457:BB5A:7AD8 rückgängig machen;". Agreed, the English messages look off. I would recommend to change them, which would require either a commit to the extension, or a Phabricator ticket, since English is the base language. --Vogone (talk) 21:37, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

How to subscribe to a talk page topic?

On English Wikipedia there is a subscribe button on talk page sections to receive notifications whenever it is edited. How to do this on Wikidata, because I can't find any subscribe button at all? Thanks! CX Zoom (talk) 10:39, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Trying to query with roqet gives a 403

I can query query.wikidata.org/sparql using the web form and curl just fine, but when I run roqet, I consistently get 403s, rather independently of how I link there.

Reproducer: Store

The FROM keyword is used to specify a graph, which you can think of as an RDF store or part of one. To use wikidata you need to go via the query protocol endpoint, which you can either do directly via roqet's "-p" parameter or via federation, like so:

Hm... I had tried -p first (that was the "rather independently" part, sorry for being obscure). With the same result.

I didn't test with the Redland tool, I used Apache Jena to check that federation was working atm. Hopefully someone else can provide an answer. Edit: This page says it doesn't support federation and a few other things from the SPARQL 1.1 specification. Infrastruktur (talk) 17:00, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
