OctraBot (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
Operator: Octahedron80 (talk • contribs • logs)
Programming language: Derivative work of MER-C's wiki-java, written in Java
Task/s: Collect interwiki links from Wikipedia's. Update old containing redirects.
Function details: The bot is going to check each local Wikipedia in order to find omitted links to collect. It also deletes existed links on local wikis except if one conflicts. It is set bot flags on some attended wikis. The bot also has other tasks on its home wiki (so it can't have global bot flag due to Meta's policy.) --Octahedron80 (talk) 01:35, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Could you explain why your bot has made 5.600+ edits, while bot operators are asked to make 200 test edits?--Snaevar (talk) 10:37, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The number of edits aggregates simultaneously with local wikis, which already allow bot flags, or even showing some demo to them. (See SUL) In other words, the bot runs on two projects, WP & WD, in the same time: picking an article from WP, checking the local links, deleting them if they already exist on WD and collecting omitted ones to WD. I am sorry for this but it is the effective process. By the way, I can stop running for some time. --Octahedron80 (talk) 17:46, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- P.S. I didn't see anywhere tell that how many edits a bot should have tested. --Octahedron80 (talk) 01:20, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Question Here the bot replaced a correct link with an incorrect one. Are there other problems like this? --Silvonen (talk) 04:41, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- As I see, ruwiki had mapped both "fi:Beightonin kriteerit" and "fi:Hypermobiliteettisyndrooma" to the group. [1] Technically, the bot is not able to know which one is right, so it needs people's vision. No problem in case of revert. --Octahedron80 (talk) 04:57, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- If the task of the bot is to add omitted links, it should not touch existing sitelinks that lead to existing pages. --Silvonen (talk) 05:28, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- There are many entities on WD that contain old redirected title (which do not match current title on local wiki). Wikidata can resolve redirect target when saving so it is the reason why I implemented one more condition: if a WD link is not equal to a local link, replace it then WD can resolve itself. (Redirects are also existing pages so it cannot be avoided.) I just got the case of multiple mapping notified by you; they are neither redirects. Concisely, I can check if a link is either redirect or another article to make sure what to save. I will not drop the replacing feature but I will make it better. --Octahedron80 (talk) 06:10, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Opposeuntil the bot is fixed not to replace existing sitelinks. --Silvonen (talk) 05:28, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]- I have modified bot's code to make it replace merely on redirects. [2] An asterisk is appended in description when it replaces. I also specified more task at the top of the section: Update old containing redirects. The notified case should not happen again. (If it happens, report bug to me.) --Octahedron80 (talk) 07:07, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you! --Silvonen (talk) 12:58, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- I am going to approve this bot in 24 hours assuming there are no objections forthcoming.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:48, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
