archives.gov edit

The current URL formatter points to archives.gov. However, archives.gov hosts only for a small fraction of executive orders an own page. A majority of links from Wikidata to archives.org result in a 404 error. Should we nevertheless stay with this URL formatter? Another issue is that archives.org requires a five digit long executive order number. Executive order numbers with four digits have to be prepended with a 0. Should we adapt this format? --Pasleim (talk) 14:51, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey Pasleim, I believe the non-broken url for this property should be https://www.federalregister.gov/executive-order/{id}. I'm not very familiar about how to update it, will try to find help. --Deansfa (talk) 18:17, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Pasleim: still needs attention.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:42, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Deansfa: Good find. The https://www.federalregister.gov/executive-order/{id} appears to work for Executive Orders 12864 (published 01/05/1994) and greater. Perhaps it shouldn't link to EO below that number. This does need a little attention. -- MicahDCochran (talk) 17:03, 7 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Deansfa:, @Pasleim:, @billinghurst:.  Y DONE. The formatter URL has been updated and works for EOs 12864 and greater in number. See below about using WikiSource in the future. -- MicahDCochran (talk) 21:48, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

WikiSource edit

After looking at WikiSource a little closer, it looks it seems to be the be an even better source of executive orders (EOs). A small issue is a couple years gap for Obama's recent EOs (2015 thru 2017) and it would take a little work to fill the gap. Other than the gap, the all EOs are available back to EO 12284 by Jimmy Carter in January 19, 1981. It has the benefit of any older EOs are also available. Perhaps filling the gap should be a prerequisite? The formatter URL would be https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Executive_Order_{1} -- MicahDCochran (talk) 21:48, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikisource is not the official source, we have copies. As you would be aware each of these would be available to be interlinked from each respective executive order to WS, so that would be the preferred means to link, and it doesn't need a formula for that.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:48, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
