How to represent free things? edit
If something is free (either generally or for a specific class) then should we represent that with a value of 0.00 [local currency] or with "no value"? Thryduulf (talk: local | en.wp | en.wikt) 12:15, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- I would say 0 (with or without unit/currency) as "no value" might be interpreted in another way (such as not applicable). Germartin1 (talk) 18:43, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Thryduulf, Germartin1: I had the same question plus a bonus question : should it be 0 alone or 0 + currency ? Naively, I would tend to add only 0 (as 0 is 0 in all and any currency). Cheers, VIGNERON en résidence (talk) 13:13, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Broadening the scope edit
I agree with Joshbaumgartner who pointed out when the property was created that the scope should be as broad as that of fee (Q11765). I am interested in using this property to indicate the entry fee for events such as conferences, festivals or concerts. Examples:
- PIDapalooza 2019 (Q56373190) → 150 United States dollar (Q4917)
- 56th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (Q48619834) → 880 United States dollar (Q4917)
- Urban Highline Festival 2018 (Q56640489) → 200 złoty (Q123213)
This property has already been used for other uses than its description, for instance on Harvard University (Q13371) to indicate application fees. Maybe it would be good to introduce qualifiers to indicate what the fees applies to exactly. Thoughts?
Pinging the editors involved in property creation: @Thryduulf, Kopiersperre, Danrok, Wittylama, Pigsonthewing, Joshbaumgartner: are you happy with changing the descriptions of this property to broaden its scope? Which qualifiers would you use to indicate who the fee applies to, and what sort of fee it is (application fee, entry fee, tuition fee)? − Pintoch (talk) 11:04, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
- Support I think it works okay as you have described. I might use has use (P366) to specify exactly what the fee applies to. Josh Baumgartner (talk) 12:21, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

- @Thryduulf, Kopiersperre, Danrok, Wittylama, Pigsonthewing, Joshbaumgartner: It seems that we have consensus, let's change the description of the property. Which qualifiers should we use: "applies to part" or "of" and which item should be linked "entry" or "entry fee", "college admission" or "admission fee" Germartin1 (talk) 18:48, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Fee-per-distance available? edit
Most of Asian toll roads are counting toll of cars use by recording their distances, thus e.g. a car has tolled 350 yen after their driver drove 5 km, if they continue driving for another 5 km, then their fee will be 700 yen. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:40, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- euro per kilowatt hour (Q108112819) and current United States dollar per gallon (Q64725760) already exist, so I don't see why new '[currency unit] per [distance unit]' items couldn't be created to fill this need. Arlo Barnes (talk) 05:50, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Modeling of fees changing over time edit
At Temple of Isis (Q104844844) I've modeled changing entrance fees for a temple over the time. I leave this here as a note in case someone has comments on that modeling or is looking for a way to model this information.
--Marsupium (talk) 08:51, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
