URL edit

@Lymantria: Because you worked on this property and the creator User:Pintoch is not available: I have the URL https://musicians.allaboutjazz.com/jamesshipp for the Page Q80265319, but I don't know how to find out the numerical ID for the URL-formatter. Do you know the solution? Regards --Färber (talk) 09:35, 30 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I found the numerical ID by checking the link going with the "SIMILAR" button. Indeed it seems that in most links the "jamesship" is used as extension at the website. Lymantria (talk) 15:53, 30 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Lymantria: Yes, I confirm that if you go for any search on that site, the URL is always translated into https://musicians.allaboutjazz.com/namesurname and it's pretty complex to find out the corresponding ID - going through the "SIMILAR" button could be tricky or take quite a time (e.g. starting from the "musician playing the instrument X" you will have to go through very long lists and navigate through tenth or hundredth of pages, this may be discouraging - musicians are listed alphabetically by first name and if the name starts with "W" you have to go trough the page navigator - just think about how many results may return a search by "guitarists" or "pianists"...) - Wouldn't it be preferable to switch to the "namesurname" format (eg. "jamesshipp") rather than creating the URL by ID? This would greatly simplify the users life when entering the value for this property (definitely more immediate and straightforward).--L736E (talk) 18:02, 15 February 2020 (UTC) P.S. I understand that migrating from the current IDs could be heavy but if there is a way to accept both formats (when the property value is numeric "[1-9]\d{3,5}" go as today, when it's literal "[a-z]+" use the namesurname format) that would be great and cope with this need saving the existing entries.Reply
Both formats will not work because of the "ID"-part in the URL-formatter. Lymantria (talk) 11:09, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi there, it seems that the formatter URL on AllAboutJazz has been changed and therefore none of the wikipedia links are working anymore. The new system is https://www.allaboutjazz.com/musicians/musician.php?id=$1. The old one http://musicians.allaboutjazz.com/musician.php?id=$1 seems to be now invalid. I've tried adjusting this by changing the formatter URL but it seems that I don't have enough knowledge to do this effectively... could anyone help?--Awellmann (talk) 10:58, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I added it. It may take some time to propagate . Instead of reopening Wikidata:Property_proposal/Allaboutjazz_musician_ID, please make new proposal if needed. Merely a change in formatter urls doesn't need a new proposal. --- Jura 12:37, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jural, thanks for the update. The wikidata links now seem to work fine, however, the actual Wikipedia links still go to the old format of URL which then leads to the error landing page on AllAboutJazz.com; for example check: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie, the link there leads to the wrong http://musicians.allaboutjazz.com/musician.php?id=90522; Do you know what could be done about this? --Awellmann (talk) 07:23, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
