Highest compared to sea level or planet center? edit
Earth (Q2) has Mount Everest (Q513) listed as its highest point, even though the summit of Chimborazo (Q14081) is further from the center of the planet. Which definition is supposed to be used? Should it be added to the description? --Yair rand (talk) 22:34, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- One could add both and the reference would show the difference .. too bad there is no height property yet. --- Jura 23:01, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Yair rand, Jura1: I had the same question. We should add reference but qualifier(s) too. What qualifier(s) would be best for that? I only see determination method (P459) but not sure how to use it and how to tell « from centre of the Earth » (should we create an item ?). There is elevation above sea level (P2044) now \o/ (with a similar question of how to tell what base level was chosen). Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:28, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
Constraints edit
This could be used to store the highest point of a bicycle stage, or a hiking trail. But then the constraints must be changed to allow instances of mountain pass (Q133056) as a value, for example. Thierry Caro (talk) 23:33, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
- I just changed this. Thierry Caro (talk) 12:28, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
I think there is a need for a "natural" constraint. The example I have in mind is w:Bennett Park (New York City), which contains the highest natural point in Manhattan, and is surrounded by higher buildings. Perhaps a complementary "artificial". --ArnoldReinhold (talk) 20:28, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
Samples edit
To increase the diversity in the samples, I replaced/removed the several countries listed there. Otherwise, people might get the impression this property is only suitable for countries. If you find better ones, don't hestitate to add/replace.

Import from highest point (Q3393392)? edit
I noticed that the opposite of isn't a new property but rather a lowest point Q35691103 paired up with an already existing highest point Q3393392. It's perhaps a good idea to keep this as a property seeing that geographically it is quite a significant statistic but I'd like to make two proposals:
- Importing from highest point Q35691103
- Adding a new property for lowest point and linking that under the opposite of statement.
Edit: Apparently inverse of is the proper logic to be used for properties so I've taken the liberty of linking lowest point P1589 to P610.
But my initial question still stands, would it be a good idea to import from highest point (Q3393392)? I'm a bit of a newbie here but is there anyway to sync up a property to a pre-existing item?

Qualifier: End cause? edit
Since start time (P580) and end time (P582) are allowed qualifiers, shouldn't end cause (P1534) be allowed too? The highest point (P610) in Sweden (Q34) was replaced by a peak 600 metres to the NE in 2018, and as the reason is explained in WP articles on the mountain, I thought it would be appropriate for a Wikidata statement. --SM5POR (talk) 20:41, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
fr:Liste_de_points_extrêmes_de_Monaco notes "Monaco est dominé par le mont Agel (1 109 mètres) et la Tête de Chien (556 mètres), mais les deux sont situés en France.".
I think that is an interesting fact to mention .. accordingly, I added it to Q235#P610 with deprecated rank. --- Jura 06:59, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Property not allowed for mountain ranges edit
type constraint: entities using this property shall be instances of one of the classes including geographic location etc..., but not "mountain range" since this is classified as a "landform". please fix. Arjoopy (talk) 18:26, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
