Value type “Fresnel lens (Q14672), lens (Q768575), reflector (Q1823435): This property should use items as value that contain property “instance of (P31), subclass of (P279)”. On these, the value for instance of (P31), subclass of (P279) should be an item that uses subclass of (P279) with value Fresnel lens (Q14672), lens (Q768575), reflector (Q1823435) (or a subclass thereof). Lens types edit

Considering that this property is intended for light sources in general and lighthouses in particular, I think we should loosen up the constraints a bit. Today I added parabolic reflector (Q1087850) and sidereal reflector (Q108563988) to the list of allowed values because not only refractive lenses are used in lighthouses, but also reflective lenses. Even though it is a bit old fashioned today mirror lenses have been frequently used historically. I also think there should be more objects for drum lenses and planar lenses and not just the size on the Fresnel scale. /ℇsquilo 18:55, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes please. It would be great to get more choice of values for this property — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:26, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Add telescopes and cameras? edit

The description of this property is: type of lens, type of lens used in a lighthouse, telescope, camera, etc.

But the statements are all about lighthouses and fresnel lenses, without mention of telescopes or cameras.

Should we remove these optical devices them from the description? Or should changes be made to the statements to include them? Senator2029 08:16, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't see any reason to narrow the scope of the property. If there are no statements currently, then there may be some added in the future — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:25, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
The property is used at c:File:S66-37970 - Gemini IX-A Augmented Target Docking Adapter (Raw scan).tif although causing a constraint violation. Shouldn't we add objective (Q3880557) to the value-type constraint (Q21510865) in stead of limiting? Lymantria (talk) 10:46, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree that the scope could/should be widened, but just adding objective (Q3880557) to property constraint (P2302) is a bad idea. The allowed values should be as specific as possible. So we should add double-Gauss lens (Q1292200), Aplanat (Q571242), Vario-Sonnar (Q7915926), etc, but not objective (Q3880557). /ℇsquilo 14:03, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
An when it comes to the docking scenen mentioned, the correct property to use is captured with (P4082). /ℇsquilo 14:05, 29 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
