On August 10, 1949, he was arrested in Krakow by functionaries of the communist Security Office On August 29, 1949 in Warsaw, the communist authorities sentenced him to death, imprisonment for life, fifteen years' imprisonment and forfeiture of property. Under the amnesty, the death penalty was changed to fifteen years' imprisonment and a total sentence of life imprisonment was imposed.
