"Mary Jane Puckett was born 8 October 1854 in Randolph County, Indiana. Her parents were Elijah and Catherine (Keever) Puckett who then lived in that portion of Eastern Indiana that lies next to Ohio and which had been inhabited by Quaker families who moved there when the states of Ohio and Indiana entered the Union with Constitutional prohibitions against slavery."
