Telegram channels/groups edit

Hello, I am a bit confused about these items:

I don't use Telegram, so I was wondering if you could help since you created a few of these. Which is the main class that all are subclasses of? How is a group different from a channel? Is a group a channel?

Trying to standardize items like Discord server (Q63198389). Feel free to create more related items like accounts and parts of a channel/group. AntisocialRyan (Talk) 18:00, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

@AntisocialRyan: Telegram channel (Q110314248) corresponds to the constructor that exists in the context of the TL-schema [2] of the Telegram API [3] as described in [4]. This item is relevant to programmers (i.e. if you don't do programming with Telegram, then you might not be interested in this).
Telegram channel (Q87410555) corresponds to that type of channel where only administrators have the right to post. When a Telegram user creates a channel, the Telegram client that is being used internally calls Telegram channel (Q110314248) to create that channel.
As stated in [1], there are 4 different chats on Telegram: "private chats", "basic groups", "supergroups" and "secret chats". Telegram basicgroup (Q110285170) corresponds to "basic groups" and Telegram supergroup (Q110284832) corresponds to "super groups". As happens with a Telegram channel (Q87410555), Telegram channel (Q110314248) is internally used by the Telegram client to create Telegram basicgroup (Q110285170) and Telegram supergroup (Q110284832).
To put it simply, every single channel in Telegram (i.e. "basic group", "supergroup", "channel", "broadcast group") use the constructor Telegram channel (Q110314248) to be created, the constructor gives each channel a set of attributes, these attributes are listed in [4]. The attributes of these channels are then changed and when this happens, these channels are given more user-friendly names (e.g. "basic group", "supergroup", "channel", "broadcast group"). For example, when the attribute broadcast is set to true, then people know that channel as "channel" or when the attribute megagroup is set to true, people call it "supergroup".
To put it simply, I recommend using Telegram group (Q87410646) for the root class of all types of Telegram channels (i.e. "basic group", "supergroup", "channel", "broadcast group"). That is, Telegram channel (Q87410555), Telegram basicgroup (Q110285170) and Telegram supergroup (Q110284832) are subclasses of Telegram group (Q87410646).

Lili stats edit

Hello Rdrg, I noticed User:Rdrg109/0/13 is blank. Did you moved that content somewhere or should I use the history ? Yug (talk) 17:47, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Yug: Yes, I moved the page to User:Rdrg109/1/13. Previously, the prefix User:Rdrg109/0 was used for my notes, but I moved my notes to the User:Rdrg109/1 prefix, so all my notes can now be found in User:Rdrg109/1. Rdrg109 (talk) 21:57, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

A Telegram of open community may lack of reference according to admin edit

Hello, @Rdrg109:, thank you for found this group Q110414479 and create it (In fact, I have a little surprise). I also found that many Telegram group for wikimedia was created, like Spanish, like português, but they still alive. Only those group that related to me was deleted because admin think the item "only edited by 1 user(you)" and "Does not meet the notability policy", and ask for "provide outside, independent (!), serious (!) sources". This is truly the official group of OSMChina, but I can't it prove it. Like I can't prove myself is myself.

So as the creater of this item, could you find some reference about this group and let admin think this is convincing? I need your help. Thank you! 快乐的老鼠宝宝 (talk) 06:13, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@快乐的老鼠宝宝: First of all, in my opinion, all Telegram groups that are related to a notable item (e.g. OpenStreetMap) should have Wikidata items. The main reason is to disambiguate knowledge and provide more information about those groups (e.g. number of participants over time, language used, bots that are used in those groups, etc.) I also think they all meet Wikidata:Notability (point no. 2), since all these groups are assigned an identifier in the database of the Telegram database (whether this is a serious reference or not is another topic of discussion), so they are clearly identifiable conceptual entities. (A)
The reason why these type of items are deleted is because (I feel) most people don't share the point of view I described (I don't blame them), so they are considered not notable and get often deleted. I think it would be a good idea if someone starts a discussion in Wikidata:Requests for comment to raise awareness on this issue. These days, I don't have enough time or the motivation to start a discussion on this specific topic, but it's something that I would love to see happen in Wikidata. I'll probably start a RFC in the future.
PS: At the bottom of the website of OSMChina, the Telegram group is mentioned, I think this could be considered a serious reference for the Telegram group, but some people would prefer to just add Telegram username (P3789) on the Wikidata item of OSM China users' group (I don't know if it exists) instead of creating a Wikidata item for the Telegram group, which leads us to the discussion (A) described above.

I afraid of make a RFC because I only can communicate in Englith with the help of translator, so it is truly hard, and I don't want to argue.
> “The main reason is to disambiguate knowledge and provide more information about those groups”
Yes, and that's why I edit on Wikidata. Thank you! 快乐的老鼠宝宝 (talk) 10:11, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Re: Disagreement on the deletion of Q113536852 edit

Restored, thanks for let me know. I also found another newspaper describe it. When I first notice this item, I could only see the it mentioned in GitHub and failed to find a reference, which leads to my previous deletion. Stang 23:05, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the quick response. I've added the article you just mentioned as a reference. Rdrg109 (talk) 00:15, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
