I'm trying to change the name of this page from Future Generations Graduate School to Future Generations University, since that is what it's currently called. I edited the title on the wikidata page, but when I save the change, the title remains Future Generations Graduate School. Am I doing something wrong? How can I edit the title?

I have just moved the article to the new title. -- Reise Reise (talk) 05:59, 7 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for doing that and for pointing me towards instructions on how to move a page. When I search for "Future Generations", however, the search result still shows as "Future Generations Graduate School" instead of "Future Generations University". Why is that?Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 22:48, 7 October 2017 (UTC) Nevermind, the problem appears to be solved nowย :)Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 05:37, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Labels for languages written in non-Latin scripts edit

Thanks for adding labels in different languages to items on Wikidata! Please bear in mind that some languages which are primarily written in other scripts should not necessarily have labels in the Latin script. A good case in point is Bengali (one of the languages in which you have added some labels), which uses a non-Latin script; I've reverted your additions in this language and adjusted them to Bengali script equivalents, though you may wish to seek assistance with the other non-Latin script languages in which you may have added labels, as I do not speak those languages. Hi Mahir, your point is well taken, this is something that has occurred to me before and I've debated not using Latin script for languages that do not use it when it comes to Wikidata labels (this is the only place I have done this, by the way). I guess the reason I have continued to make these additions is because I figured a Latin-script label was better than no label, and in the very least chances are that someone like you will come along and edit the label using the appropriate script. What are your thoughts on this? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 13:27, 10 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I personally would not bank on people passing by to fix these at all, since the use of Latin script labels for people's names goes against established practice in e.g. Arabic and Hebrew. While I don't mind making such adjustments for Bengali, I have seen others who do not necessarily go around and change such things expressing discomfort at Latin script aliases being added for non-Latin script languages. Fair enough, I will keep that in mind, thank you sirย :) Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 02:11, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

dates in descriptions of novels or other works edit

When describing a novel (or other literary work) it is best practice to reserve the date for edition data items rather than the primary data item for the work. Putting a date in the description of a novel causes problems: Is it the date the novel was written? The date it first appeared in hardback? The date it first appeared in its country of origin? The date it was first published (serialized)? Novels frequently go through multiple editions and iterations. For example, Dickens' novels were serialized in periodicals before being issued as books. H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds was first serialized in 1897, but was not published as a novel in book form until 1898. Dates are thus best placed in descriptions of data items for specific editions, rather than in the description for the data item of the work. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:34, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Capital letters in descriptions edit

Hello, I notices some of your earliest contributions did add descriptions incorrectly starting with capital letters. I fixed quite a few in English, German and Russian (see here, among unrelated edits), but as I don't want to introduce further errors to languages I don't speak, I am asking you to check through your oldest edits yourself and fix overcapitalisations (mostly in the other languages, but maybe sometimes in en, de, and ru where I missed them) where possible. Thanks!

Hi 1234qwer1234qwer4, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "overcapitalization". Are you suggesting that short descriptions should not begin with a capital letter? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 22:40, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's what I meant with "descriptions incorrectly starting with capital letters". Your earliest edits added such descriptions.
It is my understanding that short descriptions should use sentence case, meaning they should start with a capital letter, as per Wikipedia:Short description#Content Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 14:01, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia short descriptions, not Wikidata descriptions. See Help:Description#Capitalization.
Oh I see, I wasn't aware of that. I stopped writing non-English short descriptions on Wikidata quite a while ago so that might require some work. Do you think it's important enough that it warrants this kind of effort? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, Wikidata is supposed to be "structured", but descriptions seem to be a mess in general. I could try to fix Russian, German, and Russian descriptions as I did here, but I guess the others will stay for now, they're definitely better than nothing.
Yeah, I get what you're saying, but it would really be a lot of work for me to go back through all the edits I made, and the pretext seems somewhat unimportant, as you mentioned yourself ๐Ÿ˜• Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 16:08, 11 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've just finished fixing similar descriptions by another user, but the list of all edited items by him was only ~3000 items long, whereas yours is at least twice as big. I'll keep this task on my (never-ending) to do list, but I won't do it in the near future.
