817 potential divers
editHey VicVal, since you seemingly look for some work here :-), I have compiled a list of 817 potential divers for you: Pagepile 1108. It contains all Wikidata-Items that have sitelinks to Wikipedia and that are contained in any of the 34 categories given in Category:Divers (Q7038748) (including sub-categories), but not yet tagged as divers (by occupation (P106)competitive diver (Q16004431), which is the prefered method of tagging sports people, or by the suboptimal alternative sport (P641)diving (Q7735)+instance of (P31)human (Q5)). Please note that:
- The pagepile possibly contains a reasonable amount of false positives due to poor categorization in Wikipedias. You might need to identify these items as divers manually, and try to fix poor categorization at the Wikipedias (be careful, local communities are sometimes not happy about “Wikidata-invaders”).
- Articles in the above listed categories that are not at all connected to any Wikidata-item do not appear here. I plan to prepare a tool to look for these cases as well, but that will probably not be available soon.
The results have been automatically collected with a script that I wrote for a similar purpose: collecting all rowing people (~6000 at the moment). Using it for different fields is not complicated at all… In case of questions, feel free to ask. Have fun with tagging & Cheers, MisterSynergy (talk) 21:10, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the list!
- I originally started out by using AutoList2 for doing bulk edits for divers based on the same type of category structures, but found this to be somewhat troublesome, given to the quality issues from Wikipedia categories.
- In addition, I've halted the work, as I want to make sure that I have the right roles defined, so not just "divers", "springboard divers" and "platform divers" as currently defined, but also "celebrity divers", "high divers" and "show divers", being three additional types of divers.
- What I really want to do is, to take smaller sets of persons at a time, and then qualify them. I started to read all of the articles for "Category:Norweigan Divers" on the no-wiki and is sort of ready to edit those on Wikidata.
- However, I'm trying to figure out how to keep scores on what I have done and what I still need to do. One idea, so far, has been to create a PagePile and then add items to that pile, as I have worked through them.
- Any alternative suggestions? --VicVal (talk) 23:02, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- I fully agree with you, just putting this entire pagepile to autolist etc. would not be a good idea. For that reason my initial comment came with the warning that the pile might be poorly compiled and some sort of manual verification will be necessary.
- However, since I found it difficult by myself to find relevant person items at all, I wrote this script some weeks ago and found it very useful. Once you’ve worked through it you probably have ~99% of all existing diver items accessible in your project. You can systematically add relevant properties, labes+descriptions, merge possible duplicates, etc.
- Setting up items for different roles is another good idea, and for that reason I would suggest to strongly prefer tagging by occupation (P106) over sport (P641). The fromer can specify a person’s role, while the latter simply can’t. Nevertheless, putting sport (P641) first to have relevant items accessible through autolist etc. is still a valid path that does not violate any rules.
- If you’d ask me I could run the script again, also with different source categories than given by Category:Divers (Q7038748). If you give me a blacklist of wikidata items that should not appear on the pile, but cannot be correctly categorized in Wikipedias, the scripts skips these (i.e. you only have to decide once whether a person is in scope of your project).
- A valuable idea in my field was also to apply for a rowing authority control property (now World Rowing ID (P2091)) to connect the International Rowing Federation’s individual database items including person data and international competiton results to Wikidata. Apart from the powerful database report I will use this connection in references for many statements in future to actually have referenced data that is verified against an external source. I don’t know whether there is a public international database that covers a noteable subset of all divers in your sports available as well, but if so I would recommend to propose for a separate authority control property as well.

Some more items for you:
- These wikipedia articles are contained within Category:Divers (Q7038748) and subcategories, but not yet connected to any Wikidata item. You could check whether there is already an item and if so, add the wikilink, otherwise create a new item. List: en:Huang_Xiaohui, en:Miguel_Reyes, en:Choe_Un-gyong_(diver), en:Inge_Jansen, fi:Otto_Lehtonen, hu:Artyom_Alekszejevics_Szilcsenko, it:Benjamin_Auffret, it:José_Ruvalcaba_(tuffatore), it:Steele_Johnson, uk:Шелестюк_Діана, uk:Долгов_Максим, uk:Джусова_Маргарита, zh:辰巳楓佳
- Due to right-to-left spelling of fawiki and arwiki, I might have missed these four items in pagepile 1108 yesterday evening: Tonia Couch (Q437115), Fareed Lafta (Q5434933), Alicia Blagg (Q2646985), and Dmytro Lysenko (Q667577).

Nørrebro som administrativt område?
editApropos [1]: Er Nørrebro en administrativt område? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 15:55, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
