Вікідані:Лексикографічні дані/Вибрані мови
Команда Вікіданих у Вікімедіа Німеччина працюватиме над вдосконаленням частини лексикографічних даних Вікіданих у 2021 році. Команда Абстрактної Вікіпедії Фонду Вікімедіа працюватиме над створенням тексту на природній мові для базових статей Вікіпедії в 2021-2023 роках та над функціями у Вікіфункціях для роботи з лексикографічними даними. У цих випадках було б корисно спочатку зосередитись на невеликому конкретному наборі вибраних (фокусних) мов. Сподіваємось, спільноти, які беруть участь, виявлять, що цей проект приводить до довгострокового зростання Вікіпедії та Вікісловника їхньою мовою та їхньої мови.
Ми хотіли б вибрати однакові фокусні мови для обох команд, оскільки це вигідно для обох проектів, щоб мови узгоджувалися.
Ми будемо тісно співпрацювати з вибраними (фокусними) спільнотами наступні кілька років. Це означає, що функції будуть першими для їхніх мов, і ми матимемо особливо активні канали зворотного зв’язку. Ми шукаємо спільноти, які готові випробувати нові речі.
Рішення про те, які мови повинні бути вибраними, треба приймати разом із широкими спільнотами. Зокрема, ми хотіли б прийняти рішення з перспективною спільнотою, яка самостійно обирається. Це дуже добре спрацювало для Вікіданих, де фокус-проекти були обрані спільнотами самостійно.
Ми будемо використовувати англійську як демонстраційну мову та дві-три інші мови як фокусні мови. Англійська мова обрана, оскільки її легко продемонструвати широкій аудиторії та вона є робочою мовою обох команд розробників.
Для вибраних мов ми хочемо співпрацювати над цими проектами протягом наступних кількох років із активною та захопленою спільнотою або ядром спільноти.
In order to be fully transparent, we have compiled a number of detailed other criteria we would like to use to guide us in our decision, but this assumes that there are communities to choose from. None of these criteria are set in stone, and we are happy to discuss them, remove some if they are not good ideas, or add others if we missed something. Regard this as a strawdog proposal. For example, Mahir Morshed came up with a complementary set of criteria on Phabricator, which we will consider in the selection as well. We will have Q&A office hours for discussion as part of the 30 Lexic-o-days of Wikidata event, and are open to comments via wiki or email.
We are thinking of a two-pronged approach:
- first, to call for communities to propose themselves to work with us;
- second, to look at the data and see which languages would be good candidates.
We don’t want to set too strict a process. We would like the second prong of the approach to go on throughout the whole process to help us come to a good understanding of the options.
For the first prong, we would like the candidate focus groups to describe and nominate themselves on wiki, using a short form. Nominations should be submitted by April 7, and the decision will be made by April 14 by the teams taking your comments into account. If we notice that self-nominations are not happening, we will try to engage with language communities directly.
It is possible that the two teams will choose different candidates, although we will try to avoid that.

After deliberation the following languages were selected as focus languages:
- Hausa
- Igbo
- Malayalam
- Bengali
- Dagbani
