Credit Card Properties edit
I am proposing several properties that can be used to accurately represent and structure data about individual credit cards (or other payment cards). This information could be used so people can accurately find and use information about their credit cards from a single source, without dealing with marketing and hidden data. I've tried to align with http://schema.org/PaymentCard where possible. A full example is defined below:
Chase Sapphire Reserve (Chase Sapphire Reserve (Q38074863))
- Card Network: Visa Inc. (Q328840)
- Issuer: JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. (Q524629)
- Reward Program: Chase Ultimate Rewards (Q38073885)
- official website (P856): https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/chase-sapphire-reserve
- URL (P2699): https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWeb/pricing.do?card=FP4B&page_type=appterms
- Qualifier: instance of (P31) → terms of service (Q7214489)
- fee (P2555): 450 (units: United States dollar (Q4917)) (This means the annual fee is 450/year and is waived the first year)
- Qualifier: Grace Period: 1 year (Q577)
- Qualifier: duration (P2047): 1 year (Q577)
- Minimum Spend Bonus: 50,000 (units: Chase Ultimate Reward Point (Q38074153))
- Qualifier: duration (P2047): 3 (units: month (Q5151))
- Qualifier: cost (P2130): 4,000 (units: United States dollar (Q4917))
- Cash Back: 3 (units: percent (Q11229))
- Qualifier: applies to part (P518): travel (Q61509)
- Qualifier: applies to part (P518): restaurant (Q11707)
- Reward: credit (Q305253)
- Qualifier: cost (P2130): 300 (units: United States dollar (Q4917))
- Qualifier: applies to part (P518): travel (Q61509)
- Reward: Q38074522
I'm not sure about "applies to part", maybe another better qualifier could be used.
This could potentially have other properties, such as:
- Foreign Transaction Fee: 0 (units: percent (Q11229))
- made from material (P186): Metal vs plastic
- image (P18): https://creditcards.chase.com/R-Marketplace/1110008/images/cardart/sapphire_reserve_card.png
- APR
and include other perks such as:

It has been almost a month, can one of the Propertycreators create these? Thank you in advance

Support @ChristianMoore: Seems you've thought a lot about these props, so I support them en-masse. Could you consider generalizing some of them to other financial products as well? - How is this different from operator (P137) ("person or organization that operates the equipment, facility, or service"), besides for the added level of specificity? (I'm not very knowledgeable about how credit card networks work.) --Yair rand (talk) 00:26, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- The card network could also be described as the Payment Processor, as they do not "operate" or "manage" the card but instead process the transactions (and other duties, see here). I do think we can use operator (P137) for "Issuer" though, and have updated the property proposal to indicate. ChristianMoore (talk) 21:15, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

- Should we expand the scope of issued by (P2378) to cover this usage? ChristianKl (talk) 15:07, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- That should work! It already has a couple uses with non-identifiers, see: Oyster card (Q249400) -> issued by -> Transport for London (Q682520),Hospital Corpsman (Q1034117) -> issued by -> United States Navy (Q11220). ChristianMoore (talk) 18:10, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- No, I don't think so. P2378 has a reasonably clear scope without much relation to this sense of issuer. I suspect there may be another existing property that might work for this, though... --Yair rand (talk) 00:18, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- I think we could use operator (P137) ("person or organization that operates the equipment, facility, or service") as the Issuer of the card. ChristianMoore (talk) 21:16, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose as it looks like we already have the properties for that − Pintoch (talk) 08:20, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Data type | Number (not available yet) |

Source | Individual card websites |
See Wikidata:Property_proposal/Generic/CardProps. The items used for the applies to qualifier will have to be structured. There isn't a really good source of data for the different reward categories, however the Visa Supplier Locator could be used to help define these categories.

- Currently, the description says "Cash or Points" whie the allowed unit is set to currency. How does this work with a card that gives points? ChristianKl (talk) 15:05, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- Good question. There should be another qualifier: currency (P38), with the reward currency that is being earned. So for example, in a card that gives "cashback" as points: Chase Sapphire Reserve (Q38074863) -> Cash Back -> 3, qualifiers: currency (P38): Chase Ultimate Reward Point (Q38074153), applies to part (P518): travel (Q61509). So spending $100 on travel would give you 3x100 = 300 Chase UR points. For a card that gives you straight cash back: Card -> Cash Back -> 3 (units: percent (Q11229)), currency (P38): United States dollar (Q4917). Meaning spending $100 would give you 100*0.03=$3 back. ChristianMoore (talk) 19:00, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- This is a little complicated as you really have two currencies, the currency you spend and the currency you get back as an award. I'd say that the currency you spend does not really matter because you are getting back a percentage of, or multiplier of that value, and so the currency/units of cash spent is irrelevant. Maybe to make it clearer, in the first example (Chase UR), we have a unit "multiplier" on the 3, meaning you get back 3x of whatever you spent in units "units". See Wikidata:Property_proposal/Generic/CardProps. This will be used to add Merchant Category Codes to businesses. This will help users like credit card transactions to places of business and to accurately calculate their expected rewards from credit cards.

- Comment it looks like this is not an identifier for a business (Q4830453) but rather for its industry (P452) − Pintoch (talk) 08:28, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

- Pintoch MCC is used to classify the business by the type of goods or services it provides. MCCs are assigned by merchant type (e.g. one for hotels, one for office supply stores, etc.) or by merchant name (e.g. 3000 for United Airlines). So it is actually both.
